The suspense is killing me.

N and I get to NoCal early March and fly out of Tom Bradley 17th. We'll be reasonably mobile as we travel down. I'm sure we'll be able to connect somewhere and hopefully see one of these babies in the air. Hoping even more that one is in my luggage on my way home.....

would be great to mee tup and do a F-20 demo flight for you jay! also, my 1/4 scale T-38 should be flying by then....

j im pushing for that ...i seamed up your fuse this morning ,just need to work on the inlet lips and then join them to the fuse before i pop it out of the mold.wingds will be next so i'll start prepping the molds for them .i hope this all get easier as i get a few under my belt.

Yoiu guys have crafted something I couldn't do in a million years. I really do hope it gets easier and many more real F-20 fans get to own one of these.

Perhaps we could get together with AS and CN in buttonbillow, when your out. It a semi halfway point between them and I, That's most likely where CN will fly the T-38 next.
The pics are from Las Vegas last October.

CN and "Falcon5" from Nevada both scratch built these 1/4 Scale jets to fly in formation. Here's the thread for both of them.

here you go J ...no more vapor wear raw weight is 9.9 oz. or 282 grams. with some lighting holes it would be a .5oz less maybe more

I got a shipment of Mach 70 and 80mm EDFs yesterday, so I'm swamped with building fans, thrust tubes and custom wiring this week, so I had to put the F-20 aside.
Awesome weather down here. I hope to get out to the basin on Friday.

So A/S. planning on a quarter scale F-20 too. What a way to make a guy jealous.

what ! ...no plans for a big brother ......i just said it was a brother i might be able to get my hands on a large one ....i know somebody with some molds ...there old but new ones could be made.

Not quite 1/4 scale but I got a big one.

I'm working with Mach to get a 120-130mm EDF in the works.

This Byron F-20 is only 7 1/2 feet long. Used to be ICDF that I'm converting.
Me and Cory rebuilt the retracts and the struts. (yeah...that's how long it's been hangin' 'round)
Just needs a fan, most of the other goodies, and some TLC.

OK, back to work.

With most of the F-20 parts here now, I can continue to prefit the hand cut cut wood parts make and mods needed, so I can make a drawing for each one as I go, adding interlocking tabs and lightening holes
The build and the drawings are taking twice as long as I need to do both before glueing into the fuse.
Buuut, it's getting there.

The gear door cover is a separete part.

I cut out the servo bay opeing with a dremel carbide cutter. I over cut the opening a bit, but the next one will be better.

I'm also playing with some photo lighting that I can leave in place, so I can take some decent photos along the way without having to move or set up, or worry about not having daylight, since I usually have time to build in the evenings.

I'm using HS65HB servos for the ailerons and flaps. I'm sure a smaller servo would suffice, but I'm setting this up so it can be made very fast (and heavier) later. The initial power system will probably be a HET or Wemotec EDF with 4s power.

OK...back to the servos. The arm you see is one of the bigger ones, but a smaller on can be used. (or this one trimmed shorter)

The servo sits in notches i made in the servo bay, and will be locked in pretty good with a just a bit of RTV silicone adhesive. This will make is easy to remove the servo later if needed.

I was about to call it a night, when I get a email from the Captain......
"uhh, Houston, we have a problem......" he says.

Seems I cut the servo opening incorrectly.
I was supposed to leave a .20" lip around the inside of the servo bay.
This creates the ledge for the door to sit flush in, and gets screwed on with 4 screws. (There are some pics here that show that, but....well, now I know.
I re-cut the other wing before knowing about the pics, so I hope it's right this time. Looks good to me. LOL (Dam long distance relationships. Gotta love 'em, huh?)

Well, good thing I can fix (most) anything and will create a new ledge for the one I messed up.
That's why they call it a beta build, right?
OK...new pics are below, and there's talk that we may precut these opening in the wing.
I'll install the servos tomorrow.

sweet that better .....i glad to see that the ply wood is in the right place for the screws. you'll get it ...and yeah beta build help a lot cause we all do things different.
