The last plane I got down from a tree I use my son's paint ball gun. Worked. Then I shot some guy in a golf cart that was bothering me. It's may have been Ted. Not sure.

Don't fly in gusty wind. The plane with the extra fpv gear weight likes to stay flat and smooth (I use a EZ*) for roll, only pitching up and down was a issue.

+1. Just use one on the pitch axis for now. I don't see any advantage to using one on the roll axis. But, give it a try and see what you think. The best source of the EK2-0704 is from Ebay. You choose the vendor. For a guideline, they should be under ~$14 delivered to your doorstep.

Ok so I ain't had a bath for a few years. (got a king size shower). I change my pants and socks when the old ones disintegrate and put the new ones over the top of them.

Also a Dimension Engineering UBEC. (very low rf noise)
Hitec hs 55 servos for low rf noise. (HTX 900s are very noisy rf wise and draw twice what the hs does)

As you may know rf interference will degrade you VTX down link.
If your getting into FPV the you may as well get the stuff that causes the least problems now because you will want it later. All the cheap-o stuff works fine on a non FPV plane but you're not in Kansas anymore..
It all depends on what you want from FPV.

My FPV skysurfer is already built and flown last weekend for the first time. Did really well, but it's a tad underpowered with the stock motor and extra weight. I've already swapped out the stock ESC and servos (one stripped on the bench the first power up of the plane - shockingly bad quality control) and made a custom mount so I can mount regular outrunners to the Skysurfer.

This is my "learning FPV" plane so I'm not looking to drop a ton on it. I have a Skywalker waiting for that

I think I'm going to go with Dan's motor, simply because it has so many other uses after I've graduated from this starter FPV plane.

Some have more features than others. Also, there is the issue of quality. Cardboard case vs plastic/metal, etc., and most of all longevity. How long before the magic smoke appears.

My HK tester (in metal case http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...%5FTester.html) just quit working and I think I'll give that one a look.

From what I've been able to gather, cycling what appears to be a marginal servo for 5-15 minutes or so can "break it in" and work out a really good gear mesh, and that results in a smooth operating ditty from what originally appeared to be a marginal piece of equipment. Running an automatic cycler for this amount of time sure beats sittin' there moving the sticks.
