1. Have you tried to do a no-power outside loop with your SkyS (i.e. dive to high enough speed and loop it)? It is easy for me in the SkyS and I cannot get the EZ* to do it.
2. After flying both, do you see/feel any differences in how they fly?
3. Have you tried comparing them with the exact motor, ESC, LiPo in both. I haven't. But, IMHO, they seem to fly nearly exactly the same (with ailerons disabled on the Skys). I say nearly because I think the glide on the SkyS is slightly better.
4. Have you tried sustained inverted flying? IMO they are identical in this regard.
5. I still have the stock motor on my original RR SkyS (remember.....I ordered an ARF and got an RR-Lucky I guess). In your opinion, what motor would I use from the following for an equivalent motor or slightly more power)?
HK
2409-12
TR28-26 1650 (the one above)
2835-2200 or 2700 (a couple of our favorites)

RCTimer:
2826-6
2212-6
2208-12
I will hope to end up trying all of them if possible. But, I would like to know what you think?
Oh, to be fair, I should probably make both planes weigh exactly the same to do a good flight comparison. Right now they weigh:
SkyS - 20.3 oz.
EZ* - 23.9oz.
AJ
That's quite a list. It will be a while for me to have time to get to all that.
Got too many irons in the fire right now and not getting anything completed.
Besides, I count on you for motor data.

after a few more flights, and others experience with flexing/breaking wing spars, and my own obsevations with wing flex at higher throttle levels, I think I'm going to add some flat carbon strips into the wings to stiffen them up a bit. other than that, I have been really enjoying flying my skys. she just keeps floating and floating.

Funny you should say that. I'm sitting here messing with my wings and started measuring out for some CF ribbon I have.
Also check your spar covers. Mine are only glued on one long side and not the other. You can bend it some and open the gap. That needs some glue attention also.

Watt meter

Just got in the Turnigy watt meter and hooked it up to the SkyS.

Batteries Twin 2200mah 3S 20c Flightmax
Stock brushless motor
Stock ESC
TGS 6x4E prop

WOT= 14 amps 160 watts

Am I pushing the stock ESC too hard?

Jim

Nope, stock esc is listed as a 20 amp.
The only problem that esc may have on this plane is the BEC portion which powers the 4 servos and rx.

ESC Mod

The ESC in this plane runs too hot IMO. So, I moved it to the outside of the plane. On my next arf, I will probably run it on top of the plane in a nicely cut pocket for it. For this plane, it was the quickest way to do it. I will add this post to Page #1 also. If someone else does it another way, I will add theirs, too.

I have to agree...way too hot. An idea is to carve in air intakes and exhaust ports.
I think I saw RCpowers do that.

Yes. I think so. I did it too, on one of my EZ*'s. Actually, it would work equally as well on a SkyS. I will probably use this on one of my other SkyS ARF's.

On my Wild Hawk I put it on the side for cooling and simpler to swap motors.

and that's what I call creativity..
well..
When i get mine when the new shipment arrrives I'm gonna put the ESC close to the hatch.. I intent to cut a hole on the hatch and two holes one on each side at the back..
but the ESC I got already got some cooling mesaures and I stressed it at 25amps+ while it's just 18amps. it holds well with some good aircoolling .. I just can't wait for the arf version..
