I have seen a runway takeoff but they were using a motor and prop bigger than the stock version. Same for a grass takeoff. Depends on the weight of the plane and the power of the motor/prop combo.

Only issue is that it may not take off in a straight line.

Yes Robin, you can. However you may find the need to return to the Bat Cave without flying should you hit something in Gotham City.

I am not sure about grass. It would have to be freshly mowed grass (short) and the plane will do the hula for a while before getting airborne (as noted by Eagle202). BTW-What you are trying to do is called a SOGATO (Slide On Ground And Take Off). Make sure to take some videos to share.

You write "Quite well", could you please elaborate on the pros and cons?

What motor size do you use (I have the 3530 which is bigger and heavier than f ex the 2820).

How long flight times have you achieved?

What other stuff do your plane carry (FPV gear etc)?

I am contemplating using the 8x4 prop, do you think it will not give enough thrust for take-off? I didn't realize it when I ordered it, but it is BIG!

I find with the Bixler something a bit strange happens when trying to take off on grass. Firstly its very difficult to keep the wings level and secondly the more power you give it, it seems to "suck" itself to the floor. Im pretty sure with the position of the prop you end up with a little bit of a vacuum under the wings when its very close to the floor

This was posted on another thread. I damn near fell out of the chair laughting. This must be the perfect FPV platform.

I find all of my tape{or most of it }at a well supplied hardware stores, even somtimes drug storesAnd besides, i am sure he's a big boy and can do searches himself.

Well some other people may not think your comments are always helpful.

I try not to talk down to others so I mostly keep quite unless I really get pissed off by someone.

Without trying to be blunt I would suggest you try to provide support without ripping someone a new a-hole because you feel they are not intelligent.

I sometimes make mistakes or stupid decisions. The last thing I need is for someone to be a wiseguy to point out my inadequacies.

I was actually able to get air under my SS on a grass (short) lift off when it was much lighter. (Minus all of the tape and extra glue from repairs).

It spun around a little but then either hit something or just got the nose up enough to lift off. Definitely not the way I want to launch it.

I thought maybe a bigger motor and prop could overcome any friction. Landing gear would be the best for ground launching.

We must have different definitions of ripping a new one.
All i was really trying to say to the guy was, get off your but and do some leg work, i guess it's just me though, i have made countless trips to the hardware store to find the right "whatever".Besides, who of you out there just blindly follows the pack on other peoples random reccomendations,All i am saying is shop around were you live, and and your sure to find somthing that's gonna fit the bill.

Inquiring minds want to know if Gene can slither through the grass on his belly like my Bixler which, BTW, does very well at making SOGBTOs, or SOBTOs, or whatever. It also makes grass landings, dirt landings, tree landings and water landings, and sometimes all of the preceding on one approach.
