Build Log
Dumas 1956 23' Continental

This will be my second mahogany boat. The first one was a Dumas Runabout. I built it about 3 years ago, and it turned out very well. The Continental looks a little more complex, but here it goes, wish me luck. I started the build last Sunday 4/4.

Got the bottom skins on, and the bottom forward planks, also sub side plankings. So far so good. The die cutting of the light ply is very good, most parts fell out with just a little presser.

All the balsa planks have been glued on. The two large gapes will be filled with balsa blocks. A solid piece of mahogany will be glued at the nose after the mahogany planks have been installed.

Russ, here are more pictures. Glued in the balsa blocks and sanded them to blend with the balsa planks. Just about ready to start the mahogany planking.

Well I am retired and have a very understanding wife. I am about to start the mahogany, it will start to slow down. Any way Russell, and, Habanero start building and show your pictures.

One shock to me came yesterday, I was done with the epoxy coating and was getting ready for the clear. Had it out in the sun for about an hour (cool day) and noticed bubbles deep in deck surface had to sand it all away and start over.

The first two planks of mahogany are in place. The directions state to glue the top plank on first then the plank that lays against the chine.

If this one turns out looking as good as your C-C Corvette did, it will be a real winner. Enjoying your build log; thanks for sharing with us.
