I used some fuel line on the screw to keep it attach to canopy.

My worst crash till date, It hurts more when you have been working on a model for hours and it ends up like this on maiden

AUW was 1540 grams with a 5000 mah 4S and a 3S 1000mah used as weight to balance. it balanced at servo wire channel. Peak amp draw was 40 amps using a 9X6 APC E and 1000kv motor. hand launched at around 40 % throttle and it required very minor aileron trim. did 4 to 5 circuits and gave controls to a flying buddy and i went to grab camera from my car. when i returned i asked him to do a low pass and with in 5 seconds of that we had no rc link. it dived at a 70 degree angle from around 200-300 meters. i could hear the motor going full throttle and had no servo controls.

both 5000mah 4S and 3S 1000 mah batteries were destroyed.
metal gear servos have survived, both hxt900 have stripped gears.
no idea about the motor, esc and Rx yet. i don't feel like going to my rc workshop anytime soon.

wing has a bend at LE and some cracks at TE but i think its easily repairable.
two crack at horizontal stab.
vertical stab looked ok to me.
Fuselage broken from 3 points with entire nose ripped off.

But; i really enjoyed some first 4 mins of its flight, it flies awesome. glides good with zero throttle.

Lesson learnt; test your new electric setup on an old airframe first.

This was going to be my first FPV plane, had video link, DOSD v2 and TLRS UHF still in box which was planned to be installed next week.

PS: it wasnt an FPV maiden, i finished working on SW last nite and wanted to test how it flies before i put fpv equipment on it.

lockout/ Brownout may be.

it had a new esc, new battery. an old Rx flown dozens of times before.
i never experienced any lock out in one year of my rc flying experience.
could be bad factory solder joints.

He was flying it visually, so it'd be hard to blame previously working 2.4Ghz RC gear for this one.

I'm guessing the BEC was inadequate.

Guys
can it be brought back to life? has anyone experienced a similar crash and repaired it/?
what concerns me is the heavily glued spar in the boom.

none of the servos were responding and motor was at full throtle, i am sure spektrum had something to do with it.

New airframe is only $100. That's probably worth it...

A Spektrum-style brownout will turn the motor off. It may depend on your ESC, but with my DX7 and Turnigy (actually the old OEMRC) 40A, no signal from the receiver results in servos stuck in last position and motor off. I just reproduced the condition on my EZ* to be sure. The motor powers off about half a second after I pull the BEC power. If the motor was running I don't think it could have been a brownout.

Loss of signal would have resulted in a failsafe condition, ie--whatever postion the sticks were in when you bound the receiver. That's usually neutral sticks and motor off for most folks.

Based on this I can't think of a reason Spektrum would have caused a crash with the motor on. Perhaps the elevator servo/linkage failed as your buddy was headed for the deck for that low pass.

Back in the "old days" of 72MHz no one ever crashed their planes. It was always a radio glitch.
