Skywalker 168cm FPV plane

The EPO version of this plane is now available which negates the need for alot of the reinforcing described in my build

Well it arrived today from Adnan at www.fpvhobby.com

It has been discussed in the US army FPV plane thread but I think it deserves a thread of its own. So, Those people that have them lets share some tips, setups, pics and videos. Lets keep this thread Skywalker related and see how many more are out there.

I will add in the box photos soon and post info on my setup as it developes along with build pictures etc.. I invite others to do the same.

Regards

Fergus

No instructions I'm afraid. The build shouldn't be much of an issue (its very 'easy' like ) but CofG recommendations would have been nice!

More pics to come along with some serious reinforcement of the fuse and wings.

Cool...subscribed - thx.

I got lost on what the foam is like. Is it more breakable than the EZ*?

It looks like they borrowed my idea to place the FMA Co-pilot sensor on the boom , or at least put a flat surface there for something. I like it.

Some day, someone will build a fuselage containing all the best ideas suited for FPV and AP.

I will be watching this thread to learn more. I think I am going to have to get me one of these.

It is definately more breakable than the elapor foam in the ez*. This is EPS so it will need to be reinforced.

The platform is a nice touch. I'll be putting the downlink tx there where the air will help keep it cool. I had hoped to put the FMA thermopile on the horizontal stab but the cable won't reach to the fuse. I have to play around with components yet to see where I'll fit them. I might make up a longer cable for the sensor. Not sure yet.

Regards

Fergus.

Indeed, without glassing or at least tape with glass fiber in some esential places, will broke at first harsh landing. Also, some spars will help.

diydrones.com has the connectors for sale to make your own custom thermopile cable. I have bought them and they work great.

You may want to reconsider the location of the transmitter. You can expect that it will "dirty" the air flowing over the control surfaces, the thrust will put added stress on the antenna base and more/faster air is not necessary the best for cooling. Unfortunately, it is not easy to put items that need to be cooled and external antennas in the right places due to the style of construction of the fuselage components.

The best place for transmitters and antennas is further out on the wings to get them away from other antennas and sensitive components. I know this is a challenge and I don't know of anyone in these groups that have done that, but there is a lot of advantages gained if done this way.

I am getting ready to order a second video tx for my plane and I am considering putting both transmitters and antennas out on the wings.

Just throwing out a "thought gernade".
