Hobbico LiFe 200 mAh Rx Batt - 5 grams per cell
I has been a fan of LiFePO4 for 3 years thanks to everydayflyer and other pionners in the use of A123 in RC. I have been using A123 to power a Giant CAP 232, a 120 mph delta, a 9200 mAh long range trainer and several airplanes in between. All my rx batt are A123.
Since last year, my focus has shifted to DLG (Discus Launch Glider) and I couldn't use A123 in a 10 oz glider. What are alternatives? The first find is the RCR123a from K2: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...9&highlight=k2 Now there is a 200 mAh LiFePO4 from Hobbico: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXYXA6&P=7 It is expensive!!! The price: $38.18 (per 2) - $10 (coupon) + $4.99 (shipping) = $33.17 per 400 mAh and 30g. It is light!!! The weight: 15g for the 2s pack and mere 5g for a naked single cell! It can be charge fast! Charging rate: 2C. Ok, not as fast as A123 but a lot faster than K2... It is powerfull enough for 4 sub micro digital servos: Discharging rate: 10C or 2.0A. And it is safe. Tai PS. I will have to add balance tap just to check the single cell voltage. |

I cycled a single cell 3 times yesterday:
Charging at 1C, 1.5C and 2C. CC stage only and 3.85V cut off. Discharging at 5C (1A) and cut off at 2.0V. The result was 182 mAh out of 200 mAh nominal. The single cell hold up at 2.75V for first 50 mAh and 2.5V for 154 mAh. If it stay this way for hundreds of cycles, I am a happy camper! Tai |

Thanks for the report. I'm surprised that so few folks are interested in these new Rx packs. I want a half-sized A123-1100mah cell though - that would be perfect for some of my sport applications. I have a plane for which this 200mah pack would be perfect, but it has HS-50s on the ailerons - and they can't take more than 4.8V. Please let us know how they work in flight. Thanks, Paul |
