Here is a 4S 2200 mAh Lipo I bought for an EDF F-18; it just fits in the Typhoon. This 4S Lipo is 35mm X 34mm but will fit on edge or flat in the fuselage. However, if you need to fit it into the fuselage behind the cockpit, 34X34 is safer. And you can't go past the main spar.

A better looking 4S LiPo, with 45C this Thunder Power one, but only 2250 mAh again. It does have the critical 35X35 mm dimension. Should fit, but only in the cockpit, under the canopy.

I fly my Flash 2 with a similair TP-3S-2250-45C LiPo, with the identical motor I have put in the Typhoon. Neu 1110/1Y/6.7. I get maybe (conservative) 2min of total motor run time WOT on this 2250 LiPo

Another rainy day. At least I got in two flights with my 2m Poly Pulsar yesterday.

here are some more pictures. I decided grinding a little off the sides of the fibreglass control horns made them work better with the Sullivan 2-56 Gold-N clevis. Cordless dremel is invaluable for jobs like this. Check hole in control horn is 1.5mm too, to work with SUL clevis.

All servos in now, setting up flap travel, butterfly, flap to elev mix, etc. I find I rarely would use this much full flap, Typhoon would just stop, dead in the air. It will take a while to figure out how much down elev to mix with this much drag; full flap..butterfly helps reduce the "pitch up" at full flap though.
How much down elev mix do you use (expressed as mm UP at elev leading edge) do you use for full flap?

Right now, my elevator neutral (ie takeoff trim setting) is 63 mm from LE elev to bottom seam of fuselage, plan on C of G at 85mm from LE of wing

ps. as per the specs here ; http://www.sloperacer.co.uk/_content/typhoon.asp

Quote:
Elevator (Measured at widest point near root)
Up / Down 14mm
Elevator (CROW) down 9mm
so I have +- 14mm travel at widest pont, trailing edge of elevator. With max flap out, the trailing edge of elevator (at widest point) moves DOWN 9mm, to push nose of Typhoon down. Once I have full flap out/elevator TE down 9mm I have very little elevator travel (down) left.

Does that sound right?

servos all in, most of programming of Tx done. Just have to solder Phx ICE LITE 100 esc to motor, then program ESC. Fix Rx in place on velcro shelf, put in velcro to hold LiPo, final C of G balanceing. Attach servo covers..

Here are some more pictures...still not sure how much nose down elev mix to put in with full flaps

COULD YOU TELL ME DID YOU USE A GEARBOX ON YOUR Neu 1110/1Y/6.7 MOTOR AS I JUST RECIVED MY E-TYPHOON AND ABOUT TO START MY BUILD

yes, the description of the motor, "Neu 1110/1Y/6.7 designates that it has a 6.7 gear box.

Might maiden the Typhoon this week, been working on a 2M Pulsar.

prop is RFM 14.5X 10, ESC is ICE LITE 100 (in the picture).
Here are some ESC logs, from the ICE 100 flying in my Flash 2 same prop/motor. Lipo i've used in the Flash 2 is the TP 3S-2250-45C

I am about to transfer motor/ESC/prop setup from the Flash 2 and try to get the Typhoon flying before it snows here

More pictures. Worked on the Typhoon some more, fitted servo covers, put motor/ESC in nose. Wil do a test run of motor mount tomorrow.

The good news, I only had to add 7 gms of weight to the tail, to balance at 85mm from LE.

The bad news, I can only use my smallest 45 C LiPo, pushed all the way back to the main spar, to balance the Typhoon, or it will be nose heavy. Then still must add 7gms to the tail.

Feels a bit heavy, all up weight, with the LiPo is 3lbs 11.6ounces or 1689 gms. This is 150 gms more than drjim, though he has a smaller motor.

I still have to figure out a way to fix the receiver in the aft fuselage, then route the two Futaba antenna outside the fuselage, probably some where behind the wing

I'm using these numbers from Mark, aka mstone
Quote:
1. I set my initial CG at 85mm back from the leading edge. It is a good place to start I have moved it back already but have not measured it.

2. I set mine at 63mm from the bottom of the fuse to the mould line on the horizontal stabiliser at the leading edge.
Mark, where is your C of G now? I'd like to take this weight out of the tail

Ray, do you have a weight for the bare 1110 with 'box please? I have a Medusa 3200 with gearbox (though it's a bit beat up - bad trade - hope it runs) I have earmarked for an eTyphoon. Be good to know the different.

Thanks,
Al

Did you used BEC for that setup?

Do we need to take out the red wire from the ESC if BEC is used?

Or is it just the Icelite and the motor without any BEC needed ?

Al,
Neu 1110/1Y/6.7 motor weighs 205 gms or 7.2 ounces. Just weighed it now, includes 6.7 gb on the end.

Sam,
Right now I am just using the BEC built into the Ice Lite 100 ESC. They have a 5 amp switching BEC in these new Ice Lite ESC, and I am flying (soon?) with only a TP-2250- 3S-45C LiPo. All the six servos in my Typhoon are analog, HS65 servos, with metal gear on the flaps, so should be ok.

If you wanted to use a separate BEC , ie the Castle 10 amp BEC I've used in other setups, you would need to take out the red wire from the ESC.
here is a picture, where I pulled the red wire pin from the ESC plug in a Hyper, then slipped some heat shrink tube over the pin. All power to servos/Rx now comes from the Castle BEC (blue) in this picture
