Air Hogs E-Charger Conversions - Snap&Fly Gear!

There is a saying in Hawaiian slang - to "hemo" something - means to find a way to make it work with what you got. Thoughts being when you're on an island specialized stuff is hard to get. I find we have to "hemo" alot in this hobby.

Let me present my Tampon (clean) E-Charger! I needed a way to direct thrust but wanted to go a different direction than just fashioning a rudder. Also adds much needed strength.

15 lipo through she slow flys great, loops rolls all the basic tricks inverted is very impressive! I'll post video rain now - simply put for $10 you cannot beat E-charger durability, performance and price! Never fear video coming soon. And you know...

I wasn't sure I wished to scroll down for pictures LOL
Very nice idea and well implemented. I like the thinking behind the function need there

An alternative could be a solder tube ? If you take the solder from such tubes as the ones from Radio Shack and feel the weight of them, they are ridiculously light, which surprised me. Solder tubes are also a bit more macho hehe

slider,
great thinking soder tube! yes, would fit better the green tube I used is a little short... I hit up a couple craft stores to find a good longer tube but no luck but yes I have a couple soder tubes that would work... lighter toogoing to check it right now - we'll see...

funny,
just this morning I was chucking a set of AH Avenger wings around the lr, with a jumbo green drinking straw for a spine. No tail assembly either, and the tracking was still striaght and true. I was wondering if the hollowfuse was contributing to yaw stability.....

But yeah, how bout a huge Slurpee straw?

I don't mean to sound like an idiot, but I thought E-Chargers were free-flight planes. If so, what are you using for a control system?

P.S. Nice work, making do with what you've got is always cool. Around here we might call it "Ghetto Rigging" or "Redneck Engineering".

great idea! airfoil'd I too had the idea of the huge gatorade drinking straw..

the hollow fuse does indeed help with stability I first tried the cs in the hollow opening and the plane did not fly well at all. big hollow helps speeds her up too...

video coming soon... it should be good - its pretty surprising to see a flying saucer (barely see the fuse and rudder) do rolls and slowmo invert! Weather forecast - Rain! all week... its so awesome to have two completely different durable nano planes though neither can fly in the rain...

Hummmm.... been thinking... I love the performance/size of these e-chargers and really haven't wanted to fly anything else (specifically my suk or p51 or 2dog) since doing the conversions.

Question - Is it possible to do a pusher with a brick in a plane this small?

...the motor would have to be on a different horizontal plane in order be push otherwise the rods would be in the way! Been contemplating giving all my brick gear to my dad.

after just a little learning curve, actuators are my preferred method for control surfaces (only way to go for this small) primarily because you can torque the actuator when plane is static (or crash) imo bricks suck because you can't without ruining the servo...

I've already tried the mcx brick don't push enough, (2 dd motors) only brick pusher I've seen is mcx I made a while back... anybody make a Protected pusher using pz brick???

14gram ufo in a high wind!
14 gram flying saucer in high wind! (0 min 34 sec)

I'll load another video for more aerobatics in less wind!

A few night lights on that and a bit of X-Files music...MUFON would be getting calls

Handles the wind fine by the look of it. One thing about working with the wind is the disregard for what the weather is doing, just take the plane and expect performance. It's a different set of rules eh.

One alternative is to have a "mid-prop" plane (prop in slot) with the motor in front of the slot
and the brick behind the slot. The brick's wires to the motor and possibly battery
go from the brick around the prop slot and then in front to the motor.
If one is using a separate ESC (like for brushless), then also have the ESC in front of the prop-slot.
A larger (multi-ounce) plane with this configuration is the Sumo 3D:

2 geared motors instead of 2 dd motors should provide more thrust for the same amount
of volts and amps.
