You want a 40 amp. Flight time will depend on throttle usage. A 1350 @25C = 33.75 amps This setup pulls about 32 amps so that is 23.7C which is 60/23.7= 2.53 at full throttle. I went to the 3S1800 20C packs

I am not sure if the nozzle reduction on the bifurcated is a good thing. I was thinking of removing the thrust tubes I installed and fly it stock size to see how it goes. I would leave stock size for now.

Remember to use those strakes on the F18. They make landing really nice. You get low to the ground then pull up elevator and those strakes will slow you way down. Try it a few times at altitude, if you do it too high you may stall out when landing (but I land with power off), it takes a little practice to get the timing right but works great.

I flew the F18 with no thrust tubes and I think it is better this way. It seemed to me just as fast and had more vertical. One thing I did notice when I removed the tubes was that the plastic nozzles extend into the ducting so I used my dremel and sanded that sharp lip off. So I say do not bother install the thrust tubes in this one, leave as is.

Hi Don,
I am thinking of ordering a motor/fan combo for this F18. I am not sure if I should go 4S or stay 3S. I want to try not to order new batteries, but I think my 3S batteries won't be enough to power the new motor. I have a few 1300mah 20C. That's only a maximum 26A draw. So, I figured if I'm going to order a motor I minds well go 4S if the batteries I already have won't work ha-ha. If it's too much of a pain to find batteries for the 4S set-up, I'll just go with the 3S 6000kv motor. I am ordering a 40A volcano series ESC from nitroplanes soon, which seems to be the same one as the hobbywing one you recommend on your website. Do you have any recommendations on 4S batteries that work in the F18 for the 4800kv wicked combo without cutting any foam? If I HAVE to cut foam I will though. Also, how fast is this set-up? Will it be pushing 90-100mph? |

For 4S I would probably use the 4S1800 pack which is what I used in my 50mm F86 that is a nice pack but would have to double check the pack width to make sure it fit. I would think the F18 on that will be close to 100 mph. Honestly thought the 3S and Wicked 6000 is a blast in this F-18!
