I'm only on page 151 now.. 100 posts per page is much easier to read..

Hi all,
I lightly sanded the foam residue of the GG left over from the wing repair of my Champ, and I have on hand various colors of Testor's Enamel.
I think I could come up with a close color match and am wondering if I could use this paint to help cover up the glue residue.
I would be mainly applying it over where the glue is but wondering if this would have any negative effect on the foam it's on and around it.

I have this idea so please allow me to run it by you knowledgeable people.

Although so far it seems to be fine, I have some concern about that under stress and g load, my newly repaired, broken at the root wing might fold. So..to provide support, what if I ran a strip of 2 in. clear packaging tape from under the plane at the battery opening, up the side of the fuselage and window, and continue it along the bottom side of the wing to almost the wing tip?

For weight considerations, I assume that I should do the same on the other side also.

It seems to me this would strenghten the wings by adding another attachment to the fuselage.

Is my thinking right on this?

My opinion is that what you propose is total overkill and really comes out bad in the "weight vs.strength" equation.

If a glued wing is gonna break, 9 times outa 10 it wont be at the glue joint.
maybe add semi-scale stuts...strengthens things up and looks good.
These are 1/16 balsa and white gorilla glue. just eyeballed, nothin' fancy.

Just an idea.

Thanks, Olthump. I may do the strut thing. Found it interesting that it rarely breaks at the glue joint. I do like like the looks of the struts.

Just got to say....

The old "near miss", I used to hear that term in my full scale flying days and the funny thing always said about it was;

"Doesn't a near miss imply it actually hit?". LOL? The term is kind of incorrect isn't it?

On the negative side of it, a near miss is really scary when your in a Cessna 152 and a 727 passes about 50 feet over you! Been there, done that and you would be amazed just how fast a jet goes from a speck to a major threat. You quickly realize you almost cannot get out of the way no matter what you do.

....or when you are in a sailplane and your instructor tells you "right turn" and you turn left, into the traffic pattern of an active runway.

It was fun...JSC is in the flight pattern for Hobby airport...one of our bigger local airports that Southwest Airlines flies out of...it was just a long lens shot and a perfectly clear day that made it look so close. We never even saw the jet while flying. Only discovered it later in the picture!

Never thought of that...yes Near Miss is a perfect oxymoron! (like Jumbo Shrimp...or military intelligence...or ??? )
