P.S. for everybody, who is waiting more than 10minutes for GPS to gather sats, solder small button lion 3V battery to vbackup pings (refer to data-sheet of GPS)
My DOSD+ with LS20033 GPS is ready to fly after 20-30sec with HDOP 0.8 after 1 week turned off.
Interesting - what button cell did you use Virgis21?

This may be pretty cool, Virgis. May I ask... what exactly do you connect it to? The GPS module has +ve, tx, rx and -ve. All being used. What would the backup battery be connected to?

Not all GPS modules have the pins available on the breakout board for a backup battery.

This one has the batt right on the board.

same with this one: http://www.ohararp.com/products.html 10Hz and 66 channels of aquisition with a built in watch battery inside to which you can see when you turn it over. I recommend you buy the break out board but found out the labelled (RX and TX) is reversed when you connect it to DOSD+. This locks onto a SAT with in seconds and sure beats my old IF GPS which will not pick up a signal in my shop. This would.
Talk to Ryan about shipping method for he normally uses UPS which is pricey... ask him to use USPS which is just as good and just as fast IMO but a fraction of the cost. Tell him you plan to use this for DOSD+ and BTW I make nothing on this... just think this is a good buy and a good product for our users.

Wow, John! $25 for a 10mz GPS module, WITH battery backup? Is that right?
Man, I paid $47 for one without a battery..

Although.... the description on mine says:

"Backup system and 3D Fix status led onboard.

FGPMMOPA6B is best civil GPS module on the world"

Maybe mine has a battery? It's the flytron one...

I have that FlyTron GPS, it is a good one. On a clear day I get 9 sats indoors!
On a cloudy day it bounces between 5-7 sats, again, indoors.

But I don't think it has a battery in it.....

Yes $25 is hard to beat. I bought some myself just to help out a few customers who really needed my help thus why I haven't been on RCG so much, plus I'm gearing up to produce our own current sensors (90% parts here now) and getting ready to produce 2 large batches of OSDs, one for a respectable company and one for us. Anyhow I know Flytron's GPS does not come with a battery inside but I think Melikh soldered up a CAP in his PCB to compensate this. If you decide to go with Ryan's GPS, talk to him first before you buy and ask for the USPS shipping option... he really is a easy guy to talk to!

For everybody who are using Flytron GPS (simple osd). you can find the corects pins for backup battery here:
http://www.flytron.com/img/p/15-69-large.jpg
the 4th pin from the top is vbackup (solder here button battery (3V lion) + . "-" ground can be taken the same as DOSD+ is pluged)

refer to datasheet:
http://www.flytron.com/pdf/GPS_FGPMMOPA6.pdf (just in first page you can see the names of pins)
now after 1 week without power GPS is ready faster than in 30sec

LS20033 has pins too. just take a look at data-sheet.
Good luck to all of you!

Virgis21,

I just wanted to mention that you may have to test your autopilot settings and directions again as I may have changed some of the parameters along the way.

I had a test flight today, but didn't connect servos to DOSD+ output, I was afraid of DOSD+ restart
ArduIMU isn't working so good as last firmware (i think 1.6f was the last one?). So i will go back to 1.6f.
Video will be latter..
It was nice to fly then altitude is exactly as it is (barometric), i love it!

HI guys,
Finally,my test flight with DOSD+IMU.I have to say I was too coooool .The stabilization works great, but it need some tweaking, see the video, the wind was like 15 km on that day.
dosd.wmv (4 min 13 sec)

I did not try the Autopilot though ,not enough juice on my packs and I Forgot all my spare battery packs at home(too excited to try maiden the plane I guess).Wil try next time.
My ship is the MPX Cularis.Post some picture later.

Daniel,
Is it normal for the RSSI value to fluctuate like from 100 to 50 ,see video ?.
What does HDOP means?.
Any comments are welcome.

Cheers,
Anthony.

Hi Anthony,

Wow, that looks like a nice flight. Yeah.

Some fluctuation may be normal - are you using the DragonLink or some other system?

HDOP stands for Horizontal Dilution of Precision, and is a rough measure of the accuracy of the GPS position fix. So the smaller number, the less the expected positional error. I should qualify that this should be taken with a pinch of salt though as it is more of a relative reading than an absolute one.

mark,

In the latest beta firmware versions, I have added a separate gain control for GPS based stabilization so you could theoretically just disable the IMU based stabilization from the menu. Both gains are slaved to the gain control channel though. I am also mulling over whether there needs to be a separate gain setting for pitch and roll where stabilization is concerned.
