I'm not entirely sure what's going on with the IMU but this would be the third time I've seen this particular mode of failure. Ie. after a crash, it starts to drift. I don't know if it's fixable but it would appear that the gyros or accelerometers can be damaged by a high-G impact.

Have you tried re-calibrating the accelerometers? Also, don't forget to let the unit sit still during power-up. The datasheet says that the accelerometers are able to withstand up to 10,000-g shock so I don't think they are damaged. Maybe just needs re-calibration. The gyros are rated for 3000-g to 10,000-g so again I don't think it would be that easy to damage them. I'm thinking a recalibration would fix the problem.

HI brother,
I rather have the DOSD V2 than the Decals, how about that????????.This will get rid of my pain and my crash history instantly.

Waiting for the Postman to show up..............................

Daniel,
Is there a way to program the DOSD to prevent you from getting out of the menu or a warning whenever you modified some parameters on the ground (not while in the air )until you SAVE .

flight01,

I see where you are going with that but some people (such as myself) sometimes want to test settings without actually saving them. Furthermore, I'm thinking of situations where I am fiddling with settings mid-flight when I suddenly need to commandeer the plane - and I don't want to be forced to stay within the menu.

flight01,

Well, I suppose it might be possible to flash something. Right now whenever there are unsaved changes - the "SAVED" indicator becomes "---". I suppose you want this bit to flash?

MikeTheCrash,

Any particular reason why you prefer DOSD3? Ease of reference? I would prefer a systematic nomenclature that reflects the actual variations well. At the same time, if there are compelling reasons for change, I'd be open to that as well.

well isn't it kind of the third version? And "D" rhymes with "3". much less clumsy, makes it sound simpler

"what osd have you got?"
"DOSD3" or "DOSD plus version 2"

it's a marketing thing

flight01,

I just looked at the code - thinking to make this change but the menu screen was designed for low-overhead and isn't updated on a continuous basis. To make it flash would require special handling of that particular page which would make the code look ugly and incur greater overhead. I'm just thinking if this feature is worth the cost in code.

MikeTheCrash,

That's a good point. I'll see what John thinks about it - he's supposed to handle these things anyway. I'm just the oompa loompa in the lab.

Daniel,
How about a flashing dot or square in the middle of the main screen?.If it is too complicated, forget about it.I think we just have to be more carefull.
