I did launch (vertically) a 3.9kw FJU that weighed 50.6oz.
There was no issue at all....just roll and go....

Billy,your FJU looks great!!!

Are you going to sand the rim of around the fuse?when running 150 it may want to start diving a bit.

That's a nice looking fj

Did you glass it, or just use paint and clear coat?

yes...I do this and I'm not kiddin when i say your litterly have to Rip these Birds apart to tear one up...Now a crash at 150 is certainly gonna tear one up...but my reason is wear and tear.....they don't tear bits of foam out here and there when scuffed...and they will not explode at high speed..I have a couple tear apart at high speed....NEVER this way...and..It just keeps them pretty for a much longer time...

Snowshoe62...thats very nice!!!!....I love that.....Great job!!!

Thanks Rim!...I'll be able to see this good...has a red belly.....Billy

I'm gonna test it first....all of my Funjets rise when I open them up...But most likely...i'll sand it down to try for the best all out speed...The New 16/45/1.5 SCE Mega should dust my britches purty good.......Billy

Is there a point where the FJU is too heavy to launch, I hope to run 6s so how has every one coped so far?
I run 6 cell in all three of mine...just throttle up enough that it wants to pull from your hand...throw at 11:00 angle...that gives you plenty of time in case you have a problem ....some of the guys at the field earlier this week asked me why i did that....I said because if ya throw any lower of a degree....your gonna nose plant before you can make any corrections ...I haven't got the cohonies that Rim and Mopar have....they are "High Rollers"....Maybe one day soon I'll grow up to be just like them......Billy

Can you go into a little more detail about the product you used on your funjet?

That thing looks killer

Come on Mopar, ya got me tearing up here...lol Seriously I appreciate it. Not as time consuming as it looks, That finish resin is awesome stuff, dries fairly quickly at 70-80 degrees and alot of working time. Dries like armour plate. Last one had some stress cracks that the naked eye wouldnt see without it being pointed out and only got those do to a 160mph flyby that got away from me and I litterally yanked the elevator to keep from hitting our feild shed. The finish was a bit to smooth for launching so I glued some 80 grit sand paper to the grip area before it slipped out of my hand and have the prop causing havoc on my arm.

Thanks for all the compliments. This is what I used http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Epoxy-4-1-2oz 2 part epoxy product, mix like epoxy and I used a 1" brush. Did the bottom, let dry, then did the top. Easy 15-20 min working time. Before mixing heat both parts in hot water, makes it very thin. Brush it on and spread it as thin as you can to avoid runs, if and when you do get runs just lightly go over them with a brush and all the brush makes smooth right out as it dries. You will be able to tell when it starts to set up so you will know when not to touch it with the brush anymore. Mine has some runs but if you do the bottom first then the top you wont notice and if you do get something your not happy with it is easily sandable then just redo it.

Billy,

Don't think I didn't notice your edit on post # 5871.

Now you will really know what a MEGA howl is like.
max can be 7S/8S , not sure of 8S prop yet, but 7S and below are safe bet for great prop size....with throttle control, couple heat sinks etc.
8S max for FJ/FJU : Maybe too high voltage...To be determined/proven.

Even just 6S should get you about 170 MPH with 7" prop if everything is perfect A-Z.
Not bad for 16/X.
28-70-XXXX

Mopar,

....you already know it is done/built.
