Castle Phoenix HV 85 vs Phoenix Ice HV 80?

I'm putting together yet another 10S plane and am looking for a suitable ESC. I have an existing plane that runs the exact same power system on a Castle HV85, peak amps being in the low 90s static and I would guess less in flight. It handles it with no problem at all, never gets warm.

I could get another HV 85, or I could get the ICE HV 80 for $10 less.

Will the Ica HV 80 handle 10 seconds of say 93A? Or am I better off spending the extra $10 and getting another HV85 -- which I know for sure will work? I couldn't find any burst specs or reviews that indicate how much current the newer ESC can really handle for short periods.

Opinions?

p.s. a bigger ESC is not an option, I don't want to add the weight

Really? It seems that by the time you get to 80A-100A with a 10S setup, the ESC is going to be one of the lighter components on the plane. If you know you're going to be pushing the limits of an 80A power sustem, why not give yourself a little elbow room and go with a 100A ESC?

A 100A ESC would just be excess weight with no purpose, I have several unused ones sitting around but I don't want to put a bigger than necessary ESC into the plane. The CC 85 handles the power absolutely fine, the question is, will the ICE HV 80 work? I.e. is it really a lesser ESC to the Phoenix HV-85, and if so by exactly how much? I'll try calling CC tomorrow, I would think that they must know, at least comparatively, which of the two will handle more power.

Well a Castle 85HV will power a 15-17lb plane easily. The difference between it's weight an dthat of a 110 would not be felt.
Anyway I think the ICE would probably be better as it is newer technology, cheaper and has a data logger.

I called Castle and they said that the old HV 85 really does handle a bit more power than the Ice HV 80 i.e. that there is a real difference in capability not just a change in marketing claims. I'm going to go with the 85 which I know works.

The purpose would be to not overstress the components and increase risk of in-flight failure.

In flight failure is OK, no worse than a deadstick on a gasser. Lose power or see smoke = land. The CC HV85 handles 3000W peaks and doesn't even get warm, so again I maintain there's absolutely no point. Anyway, I've bought another HV 85 and that's what I'm going to use.

How about the Ice HV 80 for a 50cc gas conversion (SD Yak 30%)? or should I go with the Ice HV 120, but it's not in stock now and $60 more

Just a quick update, I've been using the CC85 now in this plane for some time and it's been 100% fine, I'm glad I didn't go with overkill.
