Well here is another that would like to see pictures. You learn a little something every time you see a new approach.

This is the Sullivan tail wheel I used. It fits the FC wheel.
S861
Model Weight 10 to 22 lbs (4-10 Kg)
Axle Size 3/32" (2,4 mm)
Max tailwhell size 1-5/8" (41 mm)
The smaller one might not fit the FC wheel.

Hi all- after a long hiatus from flying- I've finally jumped back in. I just ordered my FC from tower and took advantage of money off and free shipping.
I scanned over 100 pages of this thread and I don't think I can see straight now! LOL

I'm sorry in advance for questions I may have that I'm sure have been covered several times.

I am looking at doing HS81MG in the rudder and elevator, and HS65HB all down the wing. I'll stick to the Himax 3516-840; I have a Phoenix 35 that will go in it. Looking at 3S 3300 (30c) for battery. I think I'll be using my old DX6 for now- until I get funds to upgrade to a newer (current) radio.

Am I heading in the right direction? Any pit falls to avoid?

Yes, the DX6 is a low power park flyer radio and you will fly the FC out of radio range.

3S 3300 may be a bit heavy? I generally use 3S 2200, although I have tried a 3S 2650 and it fit and balanced OK.

keep the plane CLOSE, the dx6 is not good range-wise. i'd say get a turnigy 9x (not a 9xr) and a frsky module. end result is better than a dx8 (in my opinion) and costs under $100

I had 100's of hours using a DX6i and Orange receivers. Never had a range problem, but I always kept my batteries charged.

yes, but he was talking about the DX6, not the DX6I
the DX6 the original spektrum radio, and was for parkflyers only. range was very poor, and as it does not frequency hop it is very vulnerable to interference. also, when it loses signal it takes a good 4 to 5 seconds to get control back again.

Yes they have two different ones . One was just for short range parkflyer and the other was a full range transmitter and reciever. The short range radio wont work with any full range recievers. How do i know this ,because i picked up one of the park flyer only radios in a trade along with other rc stuff i wanted. joe

The original style Spektrum receivers that worked with the first DX6 are supposedly becoming scarce. For folks who don't want to change radios, this is a frustration.

Is anyone still flying them? I gather that they worked well.
