Hey, you know what I just thought? With those big wheels the fc has, maybe it will just ride over the snow anyway? If it's hard enough maybe.

I seriously doubt it will have problems with the wheels on snow, hard or soft.

Correct,
but since you can't see what type of snow nor what lies beneath, it is possible that it can lead to a sudden stop resulting in a tip over = wet engine. Another trick on the skis is that they have a strip underneath that allows a straight movement iso sliding into any direction.

well of course skiis would be the better option... but we are just brainstorming... if you cant get some skiis or floats, just the wheels should work and wet motors are not a problem as long as you dont let them sit in water... while float flying the motor naturally gets wet all the time

Yeah, I'll probably end up getting skiis for it, but if we get a snow before then and it isn't extremely soft, then I'll probably try using the wheels.

Is this a good component list for my FC build?:

Motor: Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 3536-1050kv Brushless Outrunner Motor

ESC: Turnigy Plush 60 amp, I have on hand, weighs about the same as the 40 amp, why not?

Servos: Elevator & Rudder: Hitec: HS-82MG

Aileron& Flaps: Hextronix 9g HXT900


Motor mount: Small Parts Motor Mount, aluminum

Morgan Milling: Floor Stiffener Kit; Battery Tray Kit; Accessory Kit

Anything I should change or add to improve quality, durability or performance?

That all sounds good. run on 2200mah 3s lipos with a 11x6-12x6 prop. But i dont think the floor stiffener kit is really nessesary. Just a good metal motor mount like you just listed will work great. But if you want to get the floor stiffener.. go ahead! The quality of morgan mills products is outstanding

Do I need to do anything about reinforcing the firewall?

Apparently the Turnigy Aerodrive C3530-1100 motor is no longer available, can anyone tell me what a good Turnigy alternative might be?

well I've got the Turnigy 910 kv with the 12x6 prop and the 40amp ESC. It'll do prophanging for the first 3 minutes on a battery (min 30c) so for me that's more then enough since personally I like to get it a slow as possible and land it in almost impossible spaces...still training a lot though

I have the exact setup, and the same results, hover on a new battery and scale flying the rest of the time.
