Here's a onboard gopro vid of us flying at the bluffs near my house yesterday. It was during sunset and I was worried that the gopro vid wouldn't turn out due to the low light. To my surprise it wasn't bad.

Flaps

I'm trying to setup flaps on a funcub using a y harness but the servos aren't in sync.
Anyone no how to fix this ?

Thanks Alan

What do you mean by "in sync"? If you mean they move in opposite directions, there have been several recent posts on the topic.

In summary there are several solutions.
1. Buy a reversing Y harness.
2. Connect one servo to another channel and mix the flap channel to it.
3. Flip one servo over - requires cutting foam.

Common problem. Either do a two servo setup with your radio, or cut extra space out on one servo slot so you can rotate the servo around 180 degrees so that the face of the servo points the other way.

It's not just that they become ineffective, you get a high risk of tip stall and even worse, a spin.
That's how I learned it, and it gets even more pronounced when you do power-on, full flaps stalls : that wing drops so fast, you really don't want that to happen at low altitude.
And of course, models are subject to the same aerodynamics, with a scale effect to it (reynolds numbers and stuff).

Conclusion remains : use rudder, no ailerons, at low speed and hi alpha.

only thing you use the ailerons for in low speed high alpha is for flat turns you feed in some opposite aileron so you dont dip and stall the inside wing.

Hahahaah - I just remembered that I bought a smallpartscnc mount for this plane in anticipation of buying one. I remember they have compatible motors listed on their website. I'll start there !

Shoot for 100 to 125 watts per lb. 300+ watts is about right.

Probably it would have been better to move the slats to the outer section of the wing.

I am wondering if some may have experimented in making the FC even slower? My slat design yielded mixed results but I feel like using my aging FC as a testbed for servo operated spoilers/Kruger flaps/droops or speed brakes on the fuse. Anybody can share their experience?

P.s. Robin, the slats are sheets of balsa molded on the wing profile and then reinforced with "cross" ribs. I have pictures in my blog.
Dome78 - Nice job, and I enjoyed the conclusion of your RC video techniques post also! Andy Lennon who designed several aerodynamically advanced models wrote a book titled "Basics of RC Model aircraft design" there’s an entire chapter (chap. 20) devoted to High Lift Devices & weight reduction, anyone who may be considering playing with HLD's might find it useful, It may still be available through Model Airplane News.
I imagine with the way things are going its just a matter of time before we see Vortex Generators on a FunCub! ~ Robin

PS - The Air Age Publishing store is out of stock on the book but I found used copies on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Basics-Model-A...ircraft+design You may want to search a bit you may find a better deal.
