You have already done so in your post: Those who still have a suitable old Top Flite Nylon prop can swap some efficiency against survivability.

With a Turnigy 2.2 3 cell turning a Turnigy 11x7 light electric wood prop with a 12.4 pack - drawdown is to 11.1 volts at 55 amps and watts are 604. It doesn't lack for power and all components come down warm not hot to the touch because full power is rarely used! This plane absolutely rocks!

so this may show my ignorance and let on that i've only bought rtf planes and only built one foamy (with all parts recommended) but...
what is a 12.4 pack? and from all the reading i've done i feel like the amps and watt reading is too high and may eventually burn up the esc or motor. am i wrong here?
Also were you able to mount the motor per directions or was it necessary to modify the mount?
Thanks for all the info and help!

Does the wing kit (M224113) come with the plastic joiner/mount and the tube spars? I already have the
Easy Cub and have wanted to add flaps and aelerons but didn't see an easy way to remove the dihedral.

Looks like 224113 is just the wing panels. It appears you'll need 723130 for the wing joiners. Wonder what the wing set at Tower Hobbies includes. Is it just 224113? If so, I don't see any parts corresponding to 723130. Guess one could purchase carbon fiber tube and cut it.

The 12.4 pack reading is what the voltage reading was on the watt meter when I ran the test! A full 3 cell is about 12.6 volts when full. My ESC is 54 amps rated with bursts to 60+ amps. The watt reading is based on how many amps the motor is drawing and to what level the volts are reading at full throttle volt drawdown. Volt drawdown was at 11.1 volts multiplied by 55 amps at full throttle which gives 610.5 watts. I showed the watt output as it actully showed on the watt meter. Most specs on electric motors are drastically conservative to keep people from burning them up and turning in warranty claims. The motor mounted easily without any modification! I do wattmeter tests on each motor set-up I do! I have minimal problems and failures on 1 cell to 12 cell set-ups! Electric has been good to me so I do not use IC!

Hi all,

I finally got out this morning and did the maiden flight on my Funcub. I am amazed at how slow this thing can fly with only half flaps. My build consisted of the following:

Castle Ice 50 amp ESC
Hyperion ZS 3009 20 turn motor
Spektrum AR-500 receiver
Two HS-81 servos for elevator and rudder
Two HS-65 servos for ailerons
Two HS-55 servos for flaps
APC 10 X 5 prop
Hyperion CX 2100 mah 3S battery

I flew several flights and couldn't be happier! This is my second RC plane. The first is the Sky Surfer from Banana Hobbies. I was very nervous before flying the Funcub, but once it was airborn I settled down and enjoyed how much fun it is to fly. I can't wait to get it back in the air!

Thanks to all who contribute to this thread as that is what convinced me to get the Funcub and I'm glad I did.

I was looking at picking up a Fun Cub soon. I wanted to use a motor I already had on hand. I was thinking the 3548-1100 in my Magister. Oops, 770W motor at 171g. Me thinks that's a bit to much. Perhaps I'll 'borrow' the motor from my AcroMaster...I forget its specs, but it's probably more in line with what the Fun Cub wants.
