Nice paint job Cheyenne. Makes me want to build a fresh one. How did you do the clean pinstriping?

I cheated , the pin striping is just that, auto pinstripe 1/4" black
The N numbers and Cub are ink jet printed on clear decal stock

cheyenne - It's always nice to see different schemes when they appear, Great Job! As soon as I committed to my scheme I found another I liked better, and I've found two more (that I liked even more) since then! I guess it's an evolving process! ~ Robin

What paint did you use?

does anyone know what the screw pitch is for the fun cub wing bolts??? I know the bolt is a M5 but I can't seem to get a nut on the bolt from the hardware store I got glue in the plastic hold downs and I want to clean them out with debonder and a homemade tap. Thanks Greg

cublandinggear.com Gear Info

Hey All – I received my articulated FunCub landing gear from cublandinggear.com, my overall impression is that they’re nicely made and look as if they will function well!
When I get my Fun Cub flying again we'll see how they do! Here’s the low down on the weights.
Basic landing gear weight - 82 grams (as delivered)
Upgrade to Stainless Steel 2-56 locknuts (+3g) Total = 85 grams
Added 4@ 1/8th” wheel collars (+ 5g) Total = 89 grams
Added 4@ springs (instead of rubber bands) (+14g) Total = 103 grams (you can probably save some weight here).
Stock wheels (+35 g per pair) Total = 138 grams (I didn't check to see if I 'picked up' any 'nails' in my tires!)
Now here’s where it gets kinda crazy – if you add…
A set of 4 ˝” Trexler Tires for $44.00 (and you still have to buy the pump) + 3oz (85g) Total = 188 grams!
A set of Dave Brown 5” Lite Flights for $15.95 + 5.28oz pair (149g) Total = 252 grams or 8.88oz!!!! (I double checked the 2.64oz wt. per wheel on both Tower and Dave Brown sites!)

Also, being a bit of a tinkerer I'd like to modify a set of RC truck shocks into a reverse acting shock absorber like the Alpha Omega Suspension System (AOSS) currently seen on the majority of bush cubs! We'll have to see about that though, who know's how much weight that will add!
Regards! ~ Robin

Mr.Rob & Cheyenne: Great shots and great paint job!

Me and my friend maidened our FC's today. What a blast! No trimming necessary, it flew completely hands off after a couple turns.
My setup:
Motor: Hacker A30-14L 800kV @ 4S 2200mAh, 13x6.5 APC prop (tried Master Airscrew K Series 12x5....not that good)
ESC: Castle Creations Phoenix ICE Lite 50
Aileron servos: Align DS410
Flap servos: Savöx SH-0257MG
Elevator & rudder servos: Savöx SH-0255MG
Receiver: Spektrum AR7010 DSM X + 1 satellite

This setup weighs in a bit over 1250 grams and still floats great with no flaps. Flight time 8:30 with 30% remaining in the pack for now. Considering these are Zippy Flightmax packs that get pretty decent beating in a heli this setup works sweet

Robin, did you notice that I borrowed your idea on the landing gear? Also I got the idea for the paint scheme at Oshkosh last year from a Carbon Cub

cheyenne - Thank's! I'll have to check out their color selection. Hope your rain stops soon, looking forward to seeing some shots of her in the air!
~ Robin

Oops! you posted while I was typing! I can't really take credit for coming up with anything on the gear (my set-up is a combonation of ideas I read about here)!
I was just on the Cubcrafter.com (not to be confused with me at all) web site last night (they make the Carbon Cub) they have color profiles of all their schemes & color combos - some really nice stuff! I've also seen color profiles out there of Aviat Husky paint schemes, some nice ideas there also!

LHS bought "COMBO- FunCub Pro" by MPI

They had 2 turn key kits for the fun cub, I bought the higher performance of the 2 kits. It includes;
-HC3516-1130 Himax BL motor
-Thunderbird 54 RSC
-APC 11x5.5 Prop
Question to you folks is, isn't that ESC abit too healthy?
I haven't built the bird yet and shined on the HZ suggestions but am now worried, a 54 amp ESC on a 40 amp motor?
Little help please,
Brian
PSA the batteries I will be trying are cheap Zippy 3S 2.2ahr

The 54 amp size is not a problem, but the BEC of the Thunderbird might be. If you use more than 4 servos, you need a switching BEC with 4 or 5 amps to be on the safe side. The 3 amp BEC of the Thunderbird is not a switching BEC
