OK I'm totally interested - I have a butcher bird kit 502 on my desk awaiting my attention. What did you use for covering? Is it monokoted or other heat shrink film, did you use tissue/dope, or perhaps something else?

Thanks!

~Ben

Hi Ben,

I use CoverLite on all my small models. It's just about as light as dope and tissue and looks tons better. You can see the build log on my blog.

Do you paint afterwards? Don't want to see the inside framework

No, it comes in three different colors. It's doesn't show off the framework too much. You could paint it, but that would add wieght.

I'm planning to replace some of the formers with 2mm depron and some stringers with CF for strength, then use a Beast 3D AS3X brick with 2s brushless power for it, so hopefully a little extra weight won't matter too very much.

Check out the build threads under the guillows conversion section. There are some great ones there. Good luck!

I'm going out flying?

Ha. More like: "I'm bringing half the warehouse to the field," tomorrow!

We've had so much wind lately, but tomorrow looks like 3-5 mph, which is heaven.

So, I had a few planes stacked up in my 'needs repair' section, but finally today I got busy fixing and assembling, and the following all now need a checkout on the field, i.e. 're-maidening', so they are lined up to be loaded into the truck bright and early:

*UMX Sbach -- broke the nose off last outing, had to reattach.

* Stryker -- ran into a tree, had to put the pieces back in the wing, glue the nose up, etc.

* Hacker Zoom Zoom - cheap servo rod connector slipped off elevator rod, caused major crash, so had to reglue motor mount, all the front (four big pieces of foam) shore up broken spar, replace servo rod holder with a Dubro, etc.

* 64mm Rafale -- just picked it up, true maiden tomorrow

* HK 64mm T-45 -- gave my original wing to someone who needed it in our club, so I used a couple of broken wings I had previously picked up, and some various hardware, to get a working replacement going.

If I can get all of those up, flown, checked out, and back down safely, I will consider that an awesome day at the field!

Went out with my buddy and out T28's and his 109. He changed his 109 to 4s but after a couple of batteries he blew his motor.

Then we were formation flying again ish and this is what happens when your not in the right frame of mind being tired and whatever you do. DO NOT look away from your plane

Sorry for any language

Watch your own plane (1 min 23 sec)
