HobbyKing the good, the bad and the ugly

Hi

I am finding that I am buying more and more from HobbyKing, So I wondered if it was worthwhile having a thread to compare and recommend their products.

Hobby knives are something we all use from time to time and I have been buying the HK ones and they are great value and the replacement blades are dirt cheap.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...des_(10pcs/set)

I use both of these to fill up weight of shipments.

Hk CA I have been using it for building and while it is slower to set that the more expensive ones available in australia, I find it still good if you make allowances for the slower setting time.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7174&Product_Name=HobbyK ing_Super_Glue_CA_(50g_/_1.7oz)_Thick

Very happy with all of these.

Also I use the accelerator which again sets a little slower but again the price saving makes it still very viable.

and the refill bottle

that was the good and now the ugly lol.

Flightmax batteries 200mah3s 20c will still good in many applications, I found wasnt as good as the Rhino.

In my mind clearly better is the Rhino.

my 2cents worth

At 6c a blade or something, the knife blades are cheap as. But I do find they blunt a bit quicker though.

Been using the HXT900 servos, seems pretty good to me though I am not the most experienced to compare to others

Maybe products to avoid-servo's etc?

Accucell 6 charger: I am only doing nicads and NiMH, but found it great for these. Same price or cheaper than simple charger over here, and can do any amounts and whatever charge rate. Only let down is the slow discharge, but what do you want for $25 (they have reduced the price)

NiMH batteries from there: got the for under $1 each, cheap as chips. FOund them great for the price. Just noticed that they are now doing low self dishcarge for $1.30 each, will try some in the next order

I found that the Turnigy batteries (OEM rebadged I'm lead to believe) are many times better than the Rhinos.
Out of all the batteries I've bought from there, the only 3 I ever had issues with were the Rhino. One dead cell and two were there was a weak cell (while usable, the single cell in each slowly drain)

Other than that, I also find the CA glue to work brilliantly.

Would like to try out their chargers but something has always turned me off them.

3 cell 1350 (just one of those had the issue) and 2x 3 cell 1750.

Maybe got a bad batch but for the price and the trouble I'll stick with the Turnigys for now.
Luck of the draw I guess

I might have to buy a trunigy 2200 3s 20c to compare to the rhino, although the rhino is going to take some beating and it is one of my older batteries now. Never counted the cycles but its going to be heaps.

Great thread Gaz. I too love the Rhino lipos. I have some Zippy Flightmax 30-40C and they are also doing well. I know Nitro had some bad luck with his Turnigy lipo's.
The Plush ESC's are great. The 5 minute Epoxy is also good. I have various motors but with anything some people get good ones and some get dodgy ones so dont know how useful it is say this or that motors great. The quality consistency just isn't there.

Thanks Ozzi

I just thought we needed a thread like this, I guess that HK is at the mercy of the manufacturers in terms of consistant quality just the same as anyother wholesaler/agent, ask me how I know lol.

Maybe thats why they seem to be moving to making a lot of their own stuff hence turnigy ?.

I too have some plush esc's and have had zero problems, and a lot of favourite motors too, but thats another story.

Hi disc

Maybe they do go blunt quicker but I can not say I have really noticed that, but we are still way infront lol.

I use mainly HXT 900's and know a lot of people who like them too so its all good on the servo front.

I am watching this charger with great interest, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Multi_Charger_ . waiting until they have extra balance boards before I make my move lol.

Brought 2 of the yellow Rhino 3S 2200 25C to try out. So far looks like they will be my new standard battery when I need to replace my older Extremerc ones.

LOL, I saw those windsocks a while ago. Haven't ordered anything lately, so don't have one yet But if you are ever on ebay, some smart bloke is re-selling them on there. People are paying ridiculous amounts for them. Up to $30 I think!! Fools!!!

As for other good stuff, I have a Turnigy 63-64 280kv motor in a largeish Super Stearman. I was very nervous about putting that motor in such a big plane. However I'm very happy. 6S, 18x10 prop and it flies beautifully. Have seen the same motor running on 12S which is 2S more than recommended. Has survived 5 or 6 flights so far no probs. Just make sure you check all the screws and grub screws and locktite them in!!

I really like the plush speedies as well.
