It takes the 3s battery, but I don't know how long it will last and what damage might happen to it. I had it WOT and it zipped around nicely. I've got the nano-tech 25-50c1300s and they seem to handle it pretty good. haha nice, I've tried to drag the wing too and it's always ended up either flat on the ground or cartwheeling a few times.

I think I will try it. And, the sound of grass being cut by a propellor, or a wing dragging, well, it is pretty cool. I'm going to find a 3s that is the same weight and push it, this is a used motor and I have a second one brand new, in the package, so why not? If I can keep the weight about the same it should go, I've been checking out high c rating batteries, really pricey, it actually costs less to go this route and just see if it will work!

EDF scythe... we'll see how it goes!

the fan and other pieces get here tomorrow... i've glued on the ailerons at the center back to allow for CG adjustments as needed and added two CF wing spars on the underside to stiffen it up a bit.

should be a fun project, i'll post more as progress is made...

So, I'm about to drop the ball on the scythes and I'm looking for two different setups. First I like elefant man and his 100+mph setup, I think it's crazy and I'll probably go something like that with one of the wings.

The second wing I'm having trouble figuring out a decent setup for a wing that is between 5-7oz because I want it to be light for the back yard area where I fly. I was thinking about a small 3s setup for it with a light motor and esc so it will float fairly well but I don't want it to be a slouch either. Anyone have something of that setup I can work with? I also plan on laminating it for strength as well so if that adds some weight, oh well.

Thanks,
Eric

I'm at 7 oz. No laminate, just added carbon fiber. A Keda http://www.strongrcmotors.com/Motors.htm 2730-1700, 6x5 EMP or 6x5.5 apc prop with a 12 A esc and 3S 460 mah nano-tech. Light and still fast with a wide speed range and good flight times on the small battery.

I've read of 14 different motors for the scythe, just have to find two for my liking. Want to find a light fast motor as well, that one used to go 100+ was $55. Has to be something less expensive and comparable.

I've been thinking about trying my 2730-1700 on 4S with an APC 5.1x4.5 or 5.0x5.0. Could be pretty fast and still run on a Turnigy Plush 12A esc.

I'm using a rewound 2812 motor with a 7x6 prop recommended for the assassin, and it's outrunning the assassins we clocked over 80mph. The acceleration is ridiculous.

I may do that since it is a cheap motor. I've heard of the motor rewind but I have never done it. Anyone direct me to a link where I can do the rewind.

Motor Winding Tutorial (HobbyKing CF2812) (10 min 56 sec)

I have used the 26 gauge wire winding it 10 times and it turns out ok, but when I used the 24 gauge wire winding it 9 times it seems to be better. I have tried the rewound 2812 motor with the 7x6 prop and it does scream pretty dang good. But the 2805 with a 4.75x4.75 works pretty good, it's also quieter.

Yes, I prefer 9 winds of 24 gauge as well. And the good microdan wire, too.

After watching the video, this image may help clarify the "path" of the wire. I think it's a good reference.

I have a turnigy accucel 6 charger, I only have the 3s balance lead left, and I have no clue which part on the HK website will fit that charger and go to the jst-xh balance plug. any ideas which part on their site?

I was getting about 25 amps on the 9 wind 24 gauge wire, so it's a little bit more than the 15-17 amps I was getting with the stock motor, so heads up with that.

I travel a lot and have a huge work territory, I made this take with me and fly wherever. I just got in from working in the field, I flew it over a freshly plowed field outside Vernon Texas, next over a huge park in Amarillo Texas, then over some more cotton, outside Lamesa Texas, then again over some forgotten piece of flat open Real Estate on the outskirts of San Angelo Texas. With this you can stop anywhere you find a big field without a fence, and no need to carry any spare parts. Then just toss it back in the back seat. This made my job a lot more bearable. Oh yeah, it eats wind!
