Tonight at MARC

I went out to MARC with the EF 60" Extra tonight after work and was pleasantly suprised to see Chris, Robert, Lee, Larry and Cody.

Taped up the control surface gaps, but not real sure I like it. The ailerons spin like a top and are crisp, but the other control surfaces will take some getting use to, and/or adjustments.

Thanks Cody for helping with the airframe today and flying it to get your opinion of what needs to be done for improvement.

+1 on Kody's help last night. I have got a lot more to learn. Teach me 3D sensei Kody.

Chet, give it time & you will acclimate to the change. If you want to gravitate toward a combination of precision & 3D; gap sealing will give you an distinct edge thru consistent control surface air pressure distribution, ask AJ. Your Extra did seem a bit touchy in a hover & harrier. You may need to go to triple rates (low / mid / high) & increase your expo on mid & high. A CG & trim baseline would also be a good idea since your control surface air flow & lift parameters have changed.

Let's also play with vortex generators to increase stability at hover & in harriers. I now think the stability gains outweigh the drag induced. If RJ, Jewit, Wojcik think they work great, they are worth a try. Perhaps we can improve slightly the shape, size, angle & placement to further increase the benefits of boundary layer attachment & airframe stability.

He ended up posting over in the EXP owners thread.

THis is by far my favorite performance all around. It's just insane. Some of the best raw flying comes after the routine.

nice cub

dont taint it with 'slime' electrify it and fund the conversion with the proceeds of the motor sale, i just resorected a 90 asp 2 stroke and wish i had saved the money and converted what i put it in to electric or gas. electric flight has tainted me to hating cleaning the slime off

on a side note do they make a cologne with the burnt nitro smell? thats all i need of it.
I seriously thought about it....I really didn't want to mess with the engine as I thought it would be in far worse shape, but it's like brand new aside from a little oxidization.
The plane is very sentimental to my dad and I so I'm going ot keep it as it originally was built as long as the engine is still good.

Random hobby related learnings of the day:

Learned that it will be another 6 to 8 weeks before I can get a replacement wing for my Edge. So thats end of September. Seriously tempted to get something else instead. But what would all that gear go into? (hmm... Pilot RC has a bunch of stuff...)

I did get all the parts to put the little Yak back in the air again. It's good to go.

Found out my 103" was flying on borrowed time. I took the cowel off to measure the headers and saw the gas line was partially melted!!! It might have been probably obstructing fuel flow. So I need to start testing again with a new gas line. Header length is ~11" which is what's recommended for the Pro Flow's. I'm going to give a Xoar 28x10 carbon a try since it seemed to like the larger prop so much better than the 27x10TH. I will get this thing running smoothly if its the last thing I do!

Thanks for the kind words on the freestyle guys! The Lord blessed my efforts and I'm glad you enjoyed it. The hardest part now is making a new routine for next year that's better... lol

Just finished up a "build" with my oldest nephew on his first real plane! Been banging the sim around for a while and decided he's more of a go-fast guy than a hucker so I helped him a score a cool new foamie pusher. Tomorrow's the big maiden so here's a few before pics, wish us luck!

Here is Flop's Maiden video on his new Extreme Flight bird at MARC. He was also trying out a new JR radio at that time as well. Enjoy!

Flop I was going to grab those gens Ace 5300's but with my Edge our of commission and nothing much on the horizon to replace it I'm going to have to pass. My "big electric" budget is tapped out for the year. I already have 5 sets of packs (!!) to fly my 50xx on at the huckfest.

I've seen cody fly the fun cub and I have to disagree! I have a Juka as well in the box that needs some attention.
