Maiden flight for the 3DHS Extra 330SC
I did a late night, one flight, maiden tonight of the 3DHS Extra 330SC and REALLY like it. It is very stable feeling. Thanks Chuck.
BTW - you guys did not miss a whole lot tonight. As soon as we got to the field it was calm all day (from reports), and then the wind gusts kicked up from 5pm to 6:30pm. |

Had fun flying at MAR-C today with Jholen, chris and robert.
Some pretty interesting flying out there from the redhats. However, we had an opportunity to talk to some of them and introduce ourselves. They all seem like great fella's. I got a waiver from the club pres-o-dent to fly the pig while I waited for the sound check equipment to arrive. A little after that flight, Jack came back over with his sound meter and we tested out the 300LP. Passed the db test with an 87.6db at 25ft. The limit is 90db. AND, my last flight had a hairy ending! flew around for a bit and came in for a landing...was long and a bit too high so I called a missed approach and poured on the gas..went to full throttle then all of a sudden..pop, weeze, pop... right at the end of the runway. luckily I had just enough altitude to glide it wings/nose level just to the right of the knee high grass for a nice soft ditch. Got home and fired up the motor. purred like a kitten. hmm yanked out the tank and tygon fuel lines. Pulled the filter and replaced it. The tygon line inside the tank was hard and unflexible. Also the internal brass vent line was not above the fuel level (should be almost touching the top of the tank)so the tank was under negative pressure as fuel is sucked out. I feel this has been the cause of the issues with fuel starvation as the tank is drawn down. Time to replace the 2 line tank with a 3 line for better tank breathing and I'm going to replace the 4.8v nimh pack with a 7.2v pack and a regulator to keep the ignition voltage to 5.2 to 5.9 as recommended. The pack in there read 4.52 which I feel was weak. And Jholen, thanks again for the help at the reception site this morning. Mucho appreciated! |

And no problem helping with the wedding prep - I remember those hectic days leading up the wedding! Anything to help make it go off smooth I'm more than willing to help out with. On another note, is anyone interested in a snapped in half and then repaired DWFoamies 40" Edge? I took it back out today and am just not feeling it. Shoot me a pm and we can talk and see if we can work something out. Suppose I could do it RTF or just the airframe, let me know. |

Updated Storage Method
As my hangar expands so does my storage methods. Here is the latest addition to my office. I found some ratcheting tie-downs from home depot - 12' in length. I think it works pretty darn good. So good in fact I almost want to get some shorter ones and replace the flat bungees, so I can adjust the height on both models instead of just the lower one.

Hey Vitter, where is that funny video that Flop Gun made that you and Gaberiffic where
chuckling about last night at the MAR/C meeting? I want to see it and get my laugh on! I'm working out a tactical bacon towing system for my MSR helicopter to confound and exercise my pets. I also took a closer look at your P-51, it looks PIIAWMP! (pimp) -Chris |
