HS-65 mg's are a good servo, but it's possible to get a bad *anything*....

I use HS-65 mg's alot and have very little trouble with them, even with a "noisy" 900mhz 500mw vid Tx nearby.

Take that 65 back and get it exchanged.

Usually when people ask this question they really mean "What are the best really cheap P&T
servos?" but in case you really want the best I think the Hyperion Atlas servos
are the best. I use DS13 for the pan and DS11 for the tilt. Both in metal gear variants.
They're programmable so you can get up to 180 degrees of rotation, can slow em down
a bit and they're very smooth and high resolution. They are unaffected by
noisy 900Mhz video Txs and such.

Just moved one of planes from Hitec 65's to Hyperion digital. Love those servos. Really good.
Smooth and tight. Just how I like them...

Not the best but quite functional. Hitec hs-55 servos with a pan/tilt unit from servocity.

I would get that with the HS 5055 digital metal gear servos.

HS 55's strip too easy.

I have been using a few HS 5055's and so far am impressed. Tough little servo.

Why does it have to be futaba/hitec/jr?

Seriously Hyperion Atlas series are the best for the task, and they're not
that expensive ordered online. They're the highest resolution micro digitals
I've seen so far.

I agree!

I think many people spend just as much time and money screwing with addons to slow the servo down or stretch the rotation. Why not just buy the Hyperions with a programmer and do it right. They perform great for this.

I see 4 different DS13 servos and 3 different DS11 servos. Which ones in particular do you recommend and whats the difference. I cant make sense of their part numbers

I reckomend the Hyperion too. I tried all the Hitec / Futaba / JR and I've got to say Hyperion are the best value in terms of quality versus price.
You can even get a cheap usb programmer that allows programming the Pan to almost 180deg (about 170) whilst still maintaining very good resolution, perfect for the Pan.

cheers Geoff

The Atlas variants are for things like super fast (heli rotor servos), high torque, carbonite
(or equiv) gears, and metal gears.

I choose the metal gear variant because sometimes the pan/tilt rig takes
direct impacts.
