thanks Don... I had a very redumentary 'nip and tuck' of the exhaust on the F16 ---

I was too afraid to cut out such a LARGE wedge like you pictured with the AMX. I cut 4 smaller wedges (not as wide and not as long) and brought them together down to about 41mm... It kinda collapsed to a slightly oval shape exhaust though, so measuring it as a circle was little tricky... Also if you think of yours as being a long gradual cone because you cut a long wedge shape --- mine was more like a quickly sloping cone at the tail end of the exhaust with a bit of a rounded feel to the tip -- if that makes any sense to you.. almost picture the curve of a Nacelle coming to its exhaust tip.

Either way -- once i get the airframe-only I'm going to put some more time & effort into getting it right on at 36.5mm with a longer wedge cutout --- maybe take the hair dryer to it to shape the foam together better...

How did you get the wedge section to collapse so cleanly? Did you warm the EPO or something.

And did you cut 1 wedge on either side (two total)... and then squeeze the wedges together like a sandwich? Or is that just 1 wedge as pictured (on first page of your thread) ?

hey don,

which set up do u recommend for the sabre..the stock set up is weak..i want some good speed and thrust but not a heavy model..what do u recommend?

I think the 5400 and Wemo on 3S is a good setup. Not crazy power but more than stock.

will the stock speed controller handle the set up or do i need to upgrade? what abt batteries for it..Iam sure stock battery is outa question.

Stock ESC is like 20 amp. The W5400 is a 260-280 watts setup (stock is 150) so amps are about 28.

I have a small suppo 40 amp esc.(yellow thingy) do u think it wil be ok to run 5400kv motor on these or get new pentium, as iam aware outrunners are very picky on esc.

Suppo will not work, they have a max rpm of about 42000 for 6 pole motor.

Yeppp..i knew these are picky oh well..i need to a 30 amp pentium now i guess..so on a 5400kv motor if i wish i wann upgrade to 4s will it be ok or grenade it or i have to swap for a 4000kv for 4s?

I have not run the wemo on 4S with the 5400, my guess will be about 550 watts. If you want to go 4S the 4800 is really the best as it is 29 amps and about 430 watts. That is my next setup, the 4800 and a 4S1300 lipo.

550 watts would be perfect, that's about the limit of the 4s 1600 30C's when i used with the Cyclone 64 fan. That fan will top out at 650 watts with enough lipo. But on the 1600, it could never peak over 550watts.

Hmmm.. flight time was not good though... 2mins hard throttle; but that was a 880gram jet, and it flew ok...

you might need to experiment. Measure out the dimensions of where you're going with the lipo and post 'em up.

Or take a picture and put something scale right next to it, like a 12oz can of pop.


All the jets are difrerent for lipo fitment -- i don't recall seeing alot of discussion or photos in this thread for battery fitment on the F18.

I gather the F16 has one of the smaller compartments --- i'm fitting a 4s 1600mah in there with slight modification to the tray area.

I just received my f18 from bh yesterday. I had to mod the battery area just to get the stock battery to fit. I bought some 1300mah batteries and i dont know if i will be able to get them to fit and balance right. My problem is the bay they put in to receive the front landing gear (I thought these were suppose to be belly landers) it takes up all the room. Any one else have this problem? i am scared to cut too much more out of the foam dont want the front end to snap off.
