Whoa, 9.5" back? And nosing in on glide? Something is not right! Did you use the newest pdf instructions off the website?

Before you give up on it, how about some photos, or even better, video? Maybe one of us can spot something. You're having a unique, very unusual experience compared to the rest of us.

The reaper likes the CG about 10.5 inches back.
Where is your CG now?

In the Deep Reaper XL instructions, It states the CG differently in places.

Quoted from the PDF on page 17:

Quote:
The Deep Reaper (without the 6” center extension) flies best with its CG at 10.5”. The Deep Reaper XL flies best with a CG of 9.5”
Quote:
63. On the bottom of the plane, measure 10.5” (or 9.5” for DR without 6” extension) back from the nose, along the center line, and place a mark at that point.
I am building a Deep Reaper XL (with the 6" extension). What should my CG be?

I have the Deep Reaper XL with the 6" extension and I have mine at 10.25".

I had it back at 10.5" but like it better where it is now.

According to CTH's most recent calculations and feedback...
10.5 without the extension
9.5 with the extension

Sorry about the typo in the instructions, I'll get that fixed asap

Is that with or without the 6" extension?

Thanks ElCapitan!

Hmmm... based on what the Captain says I've got mine too far back.

Calculations are calculations. If you're happy with it at 10, maybe it's not worth the work moving it a half inch. But for McCleary just building one, if you're using the extension (a true Deep Reaper XL), I'd balance it at 9.5 from the beginning

Is that "battery is 9.5" back" a typo? .......

I've recently built my Reaper and have a dozen or more great flights ...... lipo is a 3300 3 cell and front side edge is only 5.5" back from the nose ......

I'm new to the Reaper but have been flying My Assassin for a couple of years or more ....... this has flown well from day one but a Buddy's Assassin had major control problems from day one and it was found that the Elevon's were badly built (tape etc) and seemed to be doing there own thing once in the air ..... I just wonder if you have a simlar problem .....

A little video from the last sWARm in Utah 4-28-12. Most of the planes are Reapers.

We got kind of sidetracked on something else, so I hope no one minds if I ask again...

I want to try a different power setup on a new Grim Reaper. My original has the blue 1400kv motor with 9x6 folding props, running on a single 25-50C 2200mAh 3S. On this next one, I'm going for faster, with at least the same amount of flight time, but preferably more, but still light enough to glide well. Any suggestions? (links would be a bonus)

Look back a while for posts from Rocky Flyer-
If I can find the link he provided he is using a Cobra motor and getting long flight times, I think he was using a folding prop setup too.

Cobra. I was $$$ afraid $$$ someone would say that I'll have to look and see which motor he mentioned, exactly.
