Re: America's Cup Live

Alberto,
Great stuff. These babies are big, (90'x90' hull size), and fast, (29kts on a 10kt wind!). Too bad about the legal bickering before the races, but it's good to see them racing again.

Looks like the American team, (with a German Car name?), has won the first race.

Mark

Sadly for more than a few reasons the AC is largely a non-event. It's
not a contest amongst nations but between billioniares (really always
has been).

You wouldn't think that if you were an Australian in 1983! It was
definitely a National effort.
I think every living Australian was watching that last race at 5:30am
and cheered Australia
II home for victory. Then the prime minister got on TV and told the
nation that "if a boss
sacked anyone for not being at work today, that he was a bum."
Sorta like an official holiday to us. :)
Money certainly has a bearing on it but the Cup cannot be won without
superb teamwork
regardless of what the boat cost.

Re: Re: America's Cup Live

1983 was indeed a great America's Cup race. The Aussie's clearly had the fastest boat with its innovative winged keel. Dennis Connor did a great job taking it to seven races with a slower boat. The U.S. loss was good for the cup, it ended questionable rules making by the New York Yacht Club.

It looks like BMW Oracle will win this one. I can't wait to see the next one on San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean! I hope next time it can be raced by more than two spoiled billionaires.

Re: Re: America's Cup Live

I have the book written by one of the aussie crew. Amazing story of
dedication and teamwork!
