Rcall,

Your motor is a hoss ! I was thinking about a powerup 32: http://www.headsuphobby.com/Power-Up...otor-E-590.htm

It's 7.5 oz which should help with the balancing, no ?

Dang 800W is > than 1HP

For all these 1200mm-1400mm size foam warbirds I've been getting 3300mah 4S-30's. China hobby Line(CHL) has a warehouse in Beverly Hills, CA. Pretty darn good deals. Impressed with quality and service.

smurf i did just as you advised and it balanced out.

i'll maiden from there and if she flies erratically then i will add weight to the front.

for anyone that is getting these foam arfs DO NOT DO STATIC TESTS.
the motor runs VERY hot and could melt the plastic firewall.

you would think i would learn after my dynam fw 190. i had to slice the fuse to remove the melted firewall and add ply. uggh!

That would be me. AT-6 Texan. Have a buddy who with his Dad barnstorm the country with two of them. Nothing like a 600HP 9 cylinder Wasp radial in front of you. They come to town a couple times/year and he takes me up. Talk about fun !

Sooooo, i've decided to remove the red wire from the esc and use a separate power source for my radio gear...... LiFe 1300mah 2cell (6.6v)

i made sure all servos can handle 6.6v and i must say, THEY SURE COME TO LIFE!

The speed on these FMS servos are pretty good.

i'm concerned about the retracts though. does anyone know if the stock retracts can handle 6.6v??

(also figured the LiFe pack can serve as a token for CG)

Mmmmm,

Just a few thoughts but I think one of two things might be causing this;

1). You have too much down thrust. With the loose mount, this could explain why. Might have to shim the thrust line slightly.

2). You might be tail heavy. Best way to check CG inflight is to trim the airplane for half throttle. Roll it inverted, and see what it does. If the nose starts to drop slightly, your CG is OK. If it starts pitching up, your tailheavy. That's the tell-tale method for me anyway.

I'm far from the expert but I really could not think of any other reason.

Get some vid footage !

this is what i did....

2650 4s all the way forward.
1300mah 2cell LiFe pack all the way forward

measured cg @ 80mm

took off without any surprises.

few clicks RIGHT AILERON

full throttle SHE NOSE DIVES BADLY

zero throttle SHE PITCHES UP (thats because my elevator was trimmed far up to accommodate the nose dives otherwise she'd fly level at 0% throttle)

50% throttle SHE IS NOSE DIVES SLIGHTLY

level flight SHE YAWS LEFT (had to give right rudder clicks all the way)

inverted SHE NOSE DIVES

i believe this has alot to do with thrust angle going all over the place due to the loose firewall. i need to reinforce add a plywood firewall (making sure i have correct thrust angle)

do you think this could be it?

Whoa ,

Is there a lot of movement ? If so, I would say she's not airworthy. Get her tight .

Just my opinion.

okay after removing the motor mount I noticed that the firewall is still pretty solid. however the top right screw to the motor mount to the firewall was loose (that was my error as the screw was hard to remove)

do you guys think that could have thrown the thrust angle down enough to cause the nose diving?

yeah well I just tightened it all up so let's see if things are different this time. I will remaiden in her tomorrow.

aside from the problems its an amazing flyer. this thing looks so cool in the air. and when I deployed the flaps she ballooned just a little bit and I slow down just to test it out and she stalled and I nearly crashed but quick reaction and I saved her.

I waved off came back around and brought her in and she slowly to a crawl landed very nicely. it's official I'M IN LOVE.

This would be my bet. When applying throttle the plane should want to climb not dive. especially considering you have up trim dialed in to compensate for the diving down.

I found that to reduce pitcheness, you need to have very minimal elevator movements. It doesn't need alot, especially at high speed. I belive i'm down to 40% tx throw in my dx8.

the inverted test as noted above is a very good indicator of cg. As i noted the cg seems very picky at least for me. I'm somewhere in the 81-83mm range or 1 inch back from that 2nd line.

Def double check the thrust angle, maybe try reducing the down angle a bit.
