HK 450 - ESC and Engine hot hot hot

ESC and Motor too hot and eventually the engine off after a few seconds or not reach the speed to take off.

HK 450 ORIGINAL KIT
STOCK BLADES
ESC TOWER PRO H40A
MOTOR TURNIGY E500 4000K
WITH STOCK PINION 13T
BATTERY FLIGHTMAX 2200mAh 3S 20C
SERVOS 3X HXT900 AND INO-LAB201 TAIL
GYRO HK 401B CLONE

What is wrong with my settings? When I turn on the helicopter it runs for about 10 seconds and the engine off. The esc is very hot, although several people have recommended.

Well, 4000Kv is a little excessive for a 450, especially with a 13t pinion. Try using a 10t or 11t pinion.

Also make sure that you dont have the gear mesh between your pinion and main gear too tight when you change out the pinion. That will rob power and really heat things up. There should be a paper thickness gap between the teeth. I run a 3700Kv motor with an 11 or 12T pinion for sport flying.

Yea waht Xrayted said plus....
Make sure the belt is not too tight and pull the head off and make sure everything moves without binding.
I had to ream out a few links to smooth my HK450 out.

agreed, too high a kv motor to be efficient and really on the low side of wattage for 450, think closer to 250-300watt .. a small pinion probably wont even get it cool .. i would use that motor in a king2/300 size heli with a 9T likely ...

Allso--It helps if your throtle curve at half stick is at least 80%. Use a pinion like a 10 or 11 tooth. That lets your moter run closer to its power curve so it runs cooler, keeps the controller running cooler to! the smaller tooth pinion will slow the head speed down. A 4000kv moter with a 13 tooth pinion at 80% power curve is a bit wild hence the 11 tooth to tame it a bit. Hope this helps. PB

I've had the same problem with that ESC. Changed to another ESC with a 3 amp BES and cured the problem. I also run the E500 4000kv on a 13 tooth pinion with no over heating after I changed the ESC

This is frustrating for me to read. I have that same motor and ESC waiting to swap out the Turnigy 2830 -3500kv and 30A Plush ESC. I've had fun with my set-up, but I'm ready to up the head speed and power for some mild 3D.

Thanks for the respose.

Xrayted - About the grip between the engine and main rotor, I afrox a little, to no avail. I changed the ESC by a SS 50-65A, not heated so much, has more faults to start the engine now does not work anything in the engine, only the BEC.

I returned to the H40A TowerPro ESC and motor worked, but even to 60% throttle. Not yet tested by changing the pinion, because there have one of 11 teeth, I'll buy and try.

I think the connections are not well soldered on new ESC (SS 50-65A), I weld it all over again.

Regarding configuration, already researched the forum and found some Class 450 with this engine and ESC of 30A (okay that was a Plush). Most really puts a 3700kv with 11T pinion. Has a video of a guy playing a 3D angry with 4000kv and 13T.

A friend told me to change blades for carbon, I will try too. The original blade has holes (not cast) and some adhesives. I did not cheat the patches, this may create some resistance. I change the blades and see what happens!

My heli does not leave the ground! Bad got hovering for about 5 to 10 seconds! 'm Headquarters!

Any other ideas?

I'll post some pictures and video of the heli for you to see.

Hi Guys,

Show! It worked!

I changed the blades to the carbon fiber. Heated much less, can you be holding his hand !

Now, what happened to the new ESC? Do burned? Well, it do not matter anymore.

Tomorrow I will test it on the field and return to describe the change actually solved definitively.

I appreciate the cooperation of all.

I agee Prop Bender, I'll change the pinion to 11T. I think to config throttle to 75% and put gauge pitch to +6 (now is +9) will to tame too, for now I don't change the pinion.
