Hey Kev, which gyro would you reckon between GY401b and GA250 for HK600?

I've decided to keep it as much budget build as possible. Initially i thought about Tarot GY650 MEMS gyro from my Hurricane 425 and Align DS650 as a tail servo. I've few dragonsky GY401B (i guess they are same as HK401B) and Assan GA250 lying around and after reading your earlier posts, i am thinking of giving those a try. I've BMS-661DMG+HS Super Fast Digital Servo from HK
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9442

that i would use for the tail. Till now i've replaced main and auto rotation tail drive gear with Align due to bad wobbling issues and also had to replace the flybar cage 'cause of binding. Everything on the bench now seems pretty smooth.

Just for the info, following is the breakup of my complete 600 build till now, excluding lipos and rx (and off course not including few other spares)

HK-600GT 3D Electric Helicopter Kit  w/o blades =$129.99
Align Main Drive Gear/170T (H60019A) =$11.40
Metal Flybar Control Arm/Black (HN6001AA) =$15.80
Turnigy T600 Brushless Outrunner (1100kv) =$32.89
60 class Fiberglass Main Blade 600mm =$13.00
Align Autorotation Tail Drive Gear set (H60020A) =$7.99
Align Complete Main Gear Case Set = $22.28
TURNIGY dlux 100A SBEC Brushless Speed Controller =$34.49
Turnigy 5A (8-40v) SBEC =$5.98
GY401B GYRO =$20.00
3x HITEC 325HB STANDARD SIZE SERVO--0.19/sec--0.15/sec--3.70Kg @ 6V = $50.00
1x BMS-661DMG+HS Super Fast Digital Servo (MG) [6.4kg / .08sec / 46.5g] = $20.00

TOTAL $313.81 (doesn't include shipping cost as well )

P.S: I had some unresolved drift issues with gy401b on my 450 and i never used them since but now after watching a hot glue mod on YouTube, I've dome the same with mine and thinking of giving it another go.

The HK401B's are a great Gyro for its day, but as with everything better things become available. I've now consigned all my 401's to the back of the drawer.

Now the GA-250
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=15318
has taken its place. I expect the Tarrot GA250 is the same but with out checking I can't be sure. Was it actually made by "ASSAN"? as the Hobby King one.
I've tried these now on Heli's with lots of vibration and with different specs of tail servo's and they have always held out good. They "much" more locked in than the 401's, if fact at first they can feel too locked in where as the 401's float a little into the stop after a piro.
The GA250 does need a slightly faster tail servo though, but you can still get one fast enough on a budget. I'm still using the really cheap Blue Arrow servo because I like it.

see my reviews on this, I got a youtube vid of it lifting a big bag of suger up and down LOL, it did well.

PS: I'm sure you intend to but make sure you use 3S to power that BEC, a friend put one on as a temporary replacement for his Trex 600 ESP that uses 2S to power the BEC, the results were not pretty, of course at first the Turnigy unit was pants until he realised his mistake .

PS again LOL: Dont forget to order a 14T or 15T 6mm 0.7 mod pinion gear, the HK comes with a 10T which wont be any good to you.

Go to the GA250 thread, all is not roses over there. I have one- it bounces.

My top shelf JR G500T just went bad-pity I like the way it felt.

So I swapped this back in.

I have 4 of these and they work great for $12.70.

I have had nothing but 100% on the Aligns. I just build a HK 450"Pro" for a guy the swash had so much slop it was unusable. Sometimes the QC at HK is hit and miss. I'm not knocking the HK stuff just relating my experience.

To be fair I dont think QC comes into it at HK, the parts are produced, bagged and drop straight into the bucket for dispatch, that's one of the cost savings that makes them so cheap. A such some items are not quite upto the job like this one which to be fair the picture really does not show that well but even a glance tells you its bent.

I'll have a look over there at the GA250 thread.

Two things i've been suspicious of with the GA-250 is the "very" thin wires and the connection in the wires off to the servo. They are potential area's for problems after a limited number of flights. But like I said, I've yet to have an issues myself.

GY48 - acording to that link they take 80 Amps, hell, my first mobile phone used a smaller battery than that will need .
Seriously though, the GA-250 is an MMS gyro so I would expect it to be better as long as you have a good one, but I've only knocked up around 50 flights or so across two units so I'll reserve judgement, time will tell.

In my experiance MMS gyro's dont like the high frequency vibrations, they are the ones you can't see easily. Spool up slowly, watch the vertical tail fin, if it starts to vibrate at the tip side to side about 1 cm across that fast that its blurd then the MMS unit probably wont like it and will start to wag. Vibrations like this are normally found in the tail section from the tail gear in the frame backwards to the tail unit. MMS units also seem to operate better where the throttle does not change much, i.e. 100-95-90-95-100 curves or 100 - 97.5 - 95 - 97.5 - 100 is better, not quite sure why that is, it's just my experiance from Align GP750 - GP780 units but I would guess its because they were designed to work in governer mode.

Kev it doesn't look like GA250, it looks more like GP780 but for $50 it is a gem.

Not seen one of those before, I'd love to try one.

If I was in you're shoes I'd plump for the GA-250 you have, get it flying and then move that GY650 over and see what difference you get using the same servo. For instance I flew my Trex 600 with a GP780 and although it was very windy / gusty it was struggling flying backwards into the wind without wagging, the cheap GA-250 would have coped with that am sure.

OK guys. I finally got my HK600/Align Hybrid into the air yesterday. The Tarot GY650 MEMS gyro worked perfectly. Very precise and extremely responsive. I think that it is a little tail heavy, but then again, I was flying without the canopy installed so maybe that was the issue. In any event, I'll probably take it out again this weekend to get another few flights in.

A canopy doesn't really weight that much, I think you might need a heavier battery if it's really tail heavy.

Thats the direction I'm leaning in. I am using a 4000Mah battery now... Maybe a 5000 will do the trick.

I do have a fiberglass canopy from HK that weighs 329g... I'm going to level the swash again tonight just to be sure that everything is alright from the setup side.

To CG mine I have to have both batteries, 5000mah 6S and 2200mah 3S on the front. I am using the heavy stock tail gear though.
