The present generation, needs to "form" -call it breaking in if you will-
use low current stock setup is fine - and first time around - IF the batt read say 4.8 - check it at about 5 hours -then at the recommended 12.
It will get a bit warm NOT hot!!!!
afer it is down again to say 4.6- recharge for 12 hrs- -it again should be a bit warm
The meter on the tx will likely read a bit higher second time around
Beause the amp demand is low the absolute state of charge vs voltage read is not worth worrying about .
If it were a A123 battery - different ballgame - those are really flat curve types and require a different approach.
If you are a long time user of nimh in old PCM radios - the Dx8 setup will seem strange as those old types needed charging for every flying session.
In this case - the drain (power used) is far lower and the batteries are better and have typically more capacity An old X347 had a 600 ma pack!
That actually makes sense, the forming charge.

The DX8 charger is a 1/10C charger(200 mA), so it really shouldn't be smoking the battery pack even when left overnight starting with a partial charge.

How would you as an admitted OC personality know what rational people like?
As for gas pumps--If you own both diesel and gasoline cars who holds your hand at the filling station?
The hoses will fit in either vehicle

All except you Gerry. You're content with your 1970's charger and gas pumps that don't shut off by themselves! LOL. Get real.

Actually, my 1970's Kraft sets could be left on their chargers almost indefinately, so that was a bad example.
So, try plugging in your A 9 for a few days and see what happens! Remember, if you burn the fuse, it goes home for a fix!

Andy,

Got my DX8 back from repair, gimbals are WAY better. I think that was my problem all along. I'm happy with my DX8 now.

Yes, but would you use your 24 volt, well-designed server power supply to fill up the....oh, never mind!

I don't own both, all gasoline for me. Keeps it simple, remember, I'm a simpleton.

And if I remember correctly, a diesel pump nozzle will NOT fit in a gasoline powered truck/car fill tube.

Now why would I do that? I'm in my shop every day to check things out and tinker anyways. 12-15 hours is plenty of time, with no ill effects and I charge every time I fly. No babysitting necessary.

Remember it's only an 80 mA trickle.

Mine has been perfect from day one - I love my DX8.

But then again, I read the manual and understand the radios pro's and con's.

No problem with it as is and any future enhancements are just icing on the cake to me.

Mine was perfect for months as well, then I noticed I have glitch when the vibration alarm goes off plus wonky trims. Great radio but quality control is a bit on the poor side and it seems to have had its share of issues since launch.

Im back with these annoying DX8 glider questions. I found the following in the DX18 thread. Is it reading too much into this to expect glider software for the DX8 one day?

Actually the contrary. It gives us more tested features to integrate into the lower channel radios.

Who knows? Oh ya someone knows but he can't confirm nor deny. It's not a matter of it being annoying questions, it's just that you bought it knowing what it could or could not do.

This was and is a Airplane and Heli radio, if a glider model type did come along in the future then we would have to endure the complaints about it not having sliders.

Some owners may never be happy with it.

Diesel nozel does not fit in gasoline here in Canada. At least on recent cars.
