GWS props & 1624 - Help

Hi Guys

After slaughtering an expensive carbon prop on my new Mini IFO, I have decided that i should use some cheap plastic ones untill i get a replacement.

The shaft for the motor is 2mm, and is not threaded.

Do you know if the rubber GWS prop adaptors will work on a reduction series prop for this shaft?

Thanks

Josh

BMC Model products (www.bmcproducts.com) sells the adapters you need. It's the 3mm version of the 2MM-GWS adapter. I don't know if they still sell them. It might be a good idea to call or email first.

David Lewis (www.homefly.com)also sells an adapter.

Todd Long (www.toddsmodels.com) also sells one. It's the ACC329 adapter that you want.

One note of caution though. If you will be using GWS 10x4.7 props (or similar) with the 1624, the inertia of the spinning GWS prop can be enough to strip the gears within the 1624 gearbox during a crash. I have reduced a number of gears to metallic dust, and that was with GWS 7x6 or 8x4.3 props on 6.3:1 gearboxes (I am assuming your 1624 has the 11.8:1 ratio). It might therefore be a good idea to get a number of spare gearboxes from David Lewis. Just make sure you leave some for me!

What did you do anyway to "slaughter" a carbon prop? They are supposed to be tough.

P.S. Please be patient when waiting for a answer. Some of us have to go to work, you know.

Oops!!! You're in the UK!

It might be a good idea to email any of the vendors I mentioned to find out if they ship to the UK. You might also want to ask who the manufacturer is to find out if there is a distributor local to you.

Thanks

I was planning on getting it sent from www.aircraft-world.com.

Can I use this with an APC?

I was using that Braun prop (which came with the plane). On Friday I crashed and the blade came out of the carbon shaft thing. On Sunday, i was flying again, and had a LIGHT prop strike, and the blade cracked above the carbon thing.

I would be using a GWS/APC type prop.

Really, i dont wanna strip a gearbox, mabie i should change to a IPS untill i get better at flying, and then switch back to Wes prop.

I have contacted Braun about the problem, and they can supply a replacement blade, however it is about he same as getting a new Wes prop, so i wanted to leave it untill i could fly properly.

I am going to try some prop molding this summer .

I did not see any adapters that would match the 1624 (2mm) with a GWS prop (3mm). The one you pointed to though should work with an APC. Note though that an APC is even heavier than a GWS prop.

It might be a good idea to use an IPS first. I prefer a 10x8 on the DX-A although I am planning to try out a 9x7 on an S1 drive.

I did not know you were using the Braun prop. I assumed you were using a WES carbon prop.

OK

I had another look through the aircraft-world site, and have found the required adaptor.

It looks like a shaft extension which is threaded. Should do the job.

Do you know which size gears the 1624 uses. I am sure i can get them through www.rcscale.co.uk

Thanks

Josh

P.S. Sorry about my impatience....it has been a BAD day .
