Chrysalis MKII 2M

Got my kit on Friday and spent the weekend getting familiar with the plans and steps in the construction process. Looks like a well engineered kit and a creative way of getting around the D-Tube type construction. I will take lots of photos along the way. I'm looking forward to some relaxing flying with this one!

Maxdriver, are you a purist, or will you be building the e-version?

I am building my second one, so this will be fun. Couple of tips:

1. Number everything now, not just the ribs. Number the diagonal braces, mark the sheer webs, mark the the ply pieces that set the dihedral. Go through the 3 piece wing kit and mark those pieces.

2. Cut the plan sized directions down to a nice book.

3. Strap all the wing pieces together or keep them together: Bundle up the ribs, TE, webs, etc.. together.

hope this helps, and if you don't want the add in, just delete this post...

I build other airplanes with electric power but keep my sailplanes pure. I'm not a purist who infringes on other peoples fun however. I'll help anyone fly what they got.

I have also made a book out of my plans.

Are you going with the standard tail or the V tail ?

Hi Guys,

I built the E version last year. Pay very close attention to the instructions. Read everything twice. Trile fit stuff first. If your not sure ask Don. He will answer all your questions. I made some dumb mistakes along the way. But, it was only my second kit build ever. The plane flies great. Good luck to you.

Got the sheets made into books...helpful...and I am pleased with the kit. My only issue with the kit so far is the variation in density in the TE parts. Three of them are from 6.5 to 7 grams. But the 4th one is half the weight of the others at 3.5g.

Yah, I had the same complaint about the wood in this kit. Something is definitely different vs my first kit, where all the wood was just about perfect. In my first kit I may have been lucky but I had two heavy pieces of TE stock and two light pieces of TE stock. I figured the lighter pieces were for the outside. Its somewhat disheartening, but once you start flying you will forget all about it...

We're somewhat at the mercy of our wood suppliers, who in turn are at the mercy of the logs that arrive from Ecuador. We try to keep an eye on it, and we also keep after our wood suppliers, but occasionally something slips through.

Just in case anyone thinks I am totally looney for knowing the weight of these parts...I fly a lot of indoor duration where we weign every piece before gluing the first one. I only weighed those TE pieces, I promise. Planning to start the Fuselage tomorrow night!
