How do you guys like this plane? I have one on it's way from HL. It looks perfect for flying in a small area.

How does it compare to other aerobatic planes in it's class?

I'm looking for motor upgrade options too. Anyone using a MP Jet 25/26 in it? The stock Potensky motor and gearbox look kind of light duty.

I was also thinking of a Graupner S300 with a 5:1 MP Jet gearbox.

I love mine and yes it does fly well in a small area.

The only other plane I can compare it to is a Mini Laser 3D. It can't handle alot of wind but slows down nicely for "float" landings.

The stock motor does quite nicely, I planned on upgrading as well but the stock setup performs great. I'll wait til I wear it out before changing.

I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but ezone has one gigantisimo review on the plane, along with the eagle as well - two in one. Check it out!

Love mine too. I have an astro 010 with a GWS "A" gb and three ET-1200's. Very aerobatic, and having flaperons coupled with the elevator really allows it to perform yet still slow way down.

Not much to look at, but it sure is durable.

It must be a popular plane though. It is sold out at HL so a bunch of pepole (fellow Ezoners) are flying it.

well, I'd have to say that this plane is *not* very popular. There are a bazillion profile planes on the market out today, and in some sence, all fly the same.
Let me see, there is the:
HL prolife mustang and zlin
the Halapena
the Taco 2
the Cap T3D
soon, Todd's attitude
and, tons of people are just tracing a random side photo off the internet of their fav. plane onto a sheet of BluCor fan fold or Depron or Zepron, and cut it out. There you go, instant model.

Oh, oops, geting off topic, how did I get into profile planes?

anyway, I've heard just a little about this plane, and a lot of others seem to be grabbing a LOT more attention.

Don't forget MountainModels's Tantrum. It is still in Beta test but already has much more interest. I often fly with the MM test team, and can say the Tantrum does fly better than the Cobra, but I'd still rather have a Foamie like the Cobra to keep in the back seat for impromptu flying sessions. Why buy a profile plane when you can get a full fuselage plane like the Tantrum or Cobra?

It's hard to say but the AUW is 10 ozs so not much. My first flight attempts were in about 10 mph wind and the plane kept blowing around the runway. It flew in the 10 mph but not very fast. The gearing of the stock power system is so high that top speed isn't much, but it's desgined for 3d & hovering. To answer your question I'd bet I could do 15 mph max but it wouldn't be fun.

I popped over to the foamies section and found quite a few threads. Guess I was looking in the wrong place.

I wanted a regular fuse too with the added durability of epp. The Cobra was the answer for me. I did see the the Tantrum video and that is one nice plane too.

Creetings from Helsinki!! Just finished my Cobra, maiden tomorrow. Covey's review was a big help during construction.

I think our friend from Helsinki meant to say that I misplaced the carbon rods. It was just a screwup on my part from misinterpreting the diagrams. It still strengthened the wing fine and flies great!

I have made one mod. since my review to both the Eagle and the Cobra. I added some tiny carbon rods across the stabilizers in the tail. You could also use some carbon fishing line (called Fireline) to do this modification. This helps the tail maintain stability in harder maneuvers and higher winds. The plane just flies better!

If you break the stock gearbox, try the metal pinion gear replacement or go to the enclosed MP Jet gearbox using the same stock motor. Mine is still working great with the MP Jet gearbox.

I love my Cobra.. and dont think it needs a motor upgrade at all..

I run on Kokum 1020's 2s2p and it flies straight up at full throttle on the stock motor and prop... great little plane and I have flown mine in 15-25 mph gusts and it really does handle the wind nicely.
