foamcrazee,

I'm using a Dualsky xPower 2250mah 3cell battery (see below). It's got a 45 "c" rating and you can supposedly charge it at 6c, significantly cutting your charge time. It's a great battery, but not cheap. The pack weighs 7 ounces, and with it, my F-18 flies at 25 ounces.

Where you get this plane?

Seems that this is out of stock virtually everywhere.

I would like to get a version without electronics..

So ignoring the out of scale intakes, based on the tail antenna configuration, this is an F/A-18A version, not a C version as they're advertising.

http://site.nitroplanes.com/93A18-F1...-detail-04.jpg

The tail of the A has only three bumps on the tail. The lower one is the fuel dump, the next two are radar warning antenna. This is the tail this model has and so would be correct for Canadian, Swiss, Australian, birds.

I'll post some more info on this as I unpack my parts.

I located the lipo to the rear compartment and the CG is much better now. The plane is still slightly nose heavy but the CG is much closer to where it needs to be.

Thanks

I just upgraded the stock motor/fan unit, and ESC, but it's raining (for the next couple of days) so I won't be able to test it out for a while.

I wanted to increase overall speed, but keep it light and use my collection of 3cell batteries. I went with a Don's Wicked 4800kv, EDO 5-blade fan, and 40 amp ESC.

The whole unit came dynamically balanced, and just slipped right into the stock fan slot. It seems alot more powerful, but I don't have a scale to measure the thrust. I'll let you know how it flies when it stops raining.

Hello fellow -18 drivers. I am hoping some of you Airfield version guys are still flying your planes.

I am finishing up my Anniversary edition (white) and it looks great!
I am currently installing the radio gear/wiring things up, etc.
The motor is a Don's wicked plus 4800 and 2200mAh 4s lipo. Pentium 60 amp controller, CC bec.

The trouble I am having is where to mount the receiver? It's a spektrum 5 channel sport 2.4 receiver.

It seems like if I could get the RX stuffed into the slot where the wires go into the bottom of the plane it would be perfect.
The other option is to use long adapters for everything and run all the wires up near the front. I just don't like having to run all those extensions right through the narrow area that the lipo has to mount in.

As for the rear slot area....I'm not sure there is enough space to get the RX in back there and have the wires all hooked to the RX. IT WILL slide in without the connectors on, but the connectors make it too wide to fit.

Where did you guys using 4s lipos mount your RX? I need some ideas so I can wrap this baby up.
Thanks for any insider help you guys can offer.
Ken

Yeah, it's the AR500. Using it with my DX7 TX. I just got the DX7 a couple of months ago and had to replace all my nice Berg receivers....needed about12 receivers to start with
I am currently using about: 3 AR6200, 5 AR500, 1 AR700 and 3 AR6110s. All have worked perfectly in my various planes.

I just can't figure out the best place to mount the AR500. Usually the RX mounting place is obvious to me, but not so on this one.
It's always something..............

Where did you mount your battery? I just got the blue angel. I'm thinking behind the wheel if I cut out some space and it balances. It looks like they put the stock 1300mAh battery on the front side of the wheel. Thanks for the help.

What is the stock ESC rating? Can the stock setup handle a 4S battery?

It sure has ... that was more than a year ago!

I think I bought 2 of those. My records show 2 sellers:
  • planemodel888 (no longer a member)
  • skywave2009 (still active)

One was made by FMS, the other was by HC-Hobby.

The FMS was almost identical to the Airfield model. $75 shipped from Hong Kong - why bother? $59 plus shipping from Nitroplanes not much more, you know when it will be in stock/available, plus you'll get it faster.
