Thanks

Thanks Mark, I'm having a ton of fun putting this together and in case any one wonders, I cant ever put an aircraft together exactly per plans. I just always have to put my own spin on it!

I already liked the PT gyro's, but you've made yours very unique. I like the changes you've incorporated, yours has a very nostalgic look. Looking forward to the maiden.

Regards,
-Mike

p.s. I really do like it, I'm not just complimenting you because Joe yelled at us.

Thanks for the Vid

Jockadopolus, thanks for the vid. That was sweet. I'll be sure to film mine.

Boneswamped, I was wondering if anyone down here in good ole Louisiana flew any of these contraptions! BTW I just added Slidell to my profile. You didn't miss it.

Jodini, plenty of company now!

Go Saints

A 61- I am amazed! I was thinking more of a 30! It does look like a heavy model though - long take-off run, flies with authority but glides like a brick - a bit hard on the undercarriage i bet.
Regarding the question of weight - my Rainbow is designed for a 1300 lipo, but will take the weight of a 2100 no problem, it just flies a bit quicker.

My worry with the extra weight with a 61 installed would be the life of the PPP head plate, may be worth changing on a regular basis?

Inspection

I only painted the top of the head. It would be easy to inspect the bottom of the unpainted head for any developing stress issues.

Mast Assy

I installed the head and layed out pushrod holes

I made an oh so small notch in the mast to accept the center stringer. 2nd photo shows all stringers installed. I added a stringer directly to each side of the mast to support sheeting along mast. (not shown in photo)

3rd photo shows the 1/16 balsa sheet fitted and glued to the mast and center stringers

Fit to Fuse

If you don't have an ammonia and water solution for balsa bending, good ole Windex will work quite nicely. As you can see it's fitted to the fuse

Faired in

The cockpit is kinda faired in now. I'll have a little more sanding filling before covering. As you can see from the profile view the shape of the cockpit looks pretty good. Again all laid out with a compass.

Boo Boo

Well I made a boo boo somehow when I drilled the lower portion of the gimbal. The pivot hole is oversize causing some slop.

If you don't have one of those K&S grab bags of brass tube, you are missing one of the greatest things in your shop. I've had mine for 20 years, made balsa drills, bushings etc from it. It's just invaluable.

I found a 3/32 ID piece of brass and cut a bushing and CA'd in the gimbal pivot hole (After it was properly sized) and no more slop.
