Wow haven't done anything on tug for a while about 2 order some gearboxes. the MP-Jet planetary type for 500-600 size motors they will be attached to 550 type motors.
Was wondering if I should go for the 3.3-1 ratio or the 3.8-1 ??? Any suggestions ??

Would checkout the RPM's of the motors and then figure to downsize to 2,500 to 4,500 turns on the prop. That would be well within the ballpark. I tend to go to the 3.8 to 1 to turn big props but have had to swap up to get the prop speed in the range.

Been doing some work on tug hull planking a little bit 2 do (some small strips, and bow bulwarks then some sanding) then I can start F/glassing her. The hull is 1.5mm balsa sheet with 1.5mm ply for upper sides and bow bulwarks.

Been busy f/glassing and filling hull, did a ballast test in the bathtub tonight 2 C how much weight she will need for waterline. It took 5 x 12v7ah batteries (approx. 11kgs (22lbs)). when finished she will be powered by 2x 12v7ah the rest of ballast will be lead and weight of motors and equipment.

Cheers Bruce

I tell ya Bruce your a boat building machine. I get on here one day and you have frames cut. The next, it seems like you are putting filler on one and another build is already getting wet. You guys must have more than 24 hours in a day down there in Aussieland or I just build slower than crap...I'm thinking its the latter though, haha. Great work as usual by the way.

Just plenty of free time due 2 lack of a Job!! Plus the weather has been perfect for building boats and #25's!! although I only started this build 60 odd days ago!!
The tug will have too sit for a bit now until I can afford running gear for her, need 2 decide if I am going 2 put a bow thruster in or not.
Spent the afternoon fixing my jet boat so it don't leak like sieve around the drive unit!!
will have 2 wait 24 hrs for it 2 dry before testing...

Cheers Bruce

Did somemore!!

Wow I actually got some work done on the Salvage Tug today!! Haven't touched it for a couple of months, I have some Kort nozzles on the way from Uk. So I thought I would get the hull finished off before they turn up.
Have done the bilge keel and ribbing on Stbd side, now need 2 do other side!

Cheers Bruce
