The reason why GOP hates ACORN.

We've been getting an overload of bunk in recent weeks from a gaggle of Fox-brained Republican Congress critters. They've been flapping their gums to demonize and destroy a grassroots group that has offended them by--get ready to be outraged--organizing and helping to empower thousands of Americans who live in low-income and working-class neighborhoods all across the country.

ACORN is this grassroots group. For four decades, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has been going door to door, neighborhood to neighborhood, to extend basic democratic tools to people who've been dissed and dismissed by the political system. What ACORN's effort amounts to is civic education. Few members of the local chapters have ever been active in community decision making. After all, that process is usually held in the tight grip of moneyed interests who reside and work in distant, much tonier zip codes, and regular folks rarely are welcome.

Through ACORN, however, these powerless ones get an immersion in self-help democracy, learning how to operate in the public sphere to become both political and economic players. They form their own neighborhood organizations, elect officers, and choose a set of issues to push--from bank redlining to better garbage pickup, from rip-off utility bills to enforcement of antipollution regulations. They soon discover that working together, they have actual power to get things done through direct actions, group negotiations, and voter participation.

They are the group, most responsible for protecting those that the wingers want to be culled, and killled, by the "free market". They want to bring maximum pain to the dispossessed. This is to TEACH all the rest to do or die. And we, the Dems, are the ruthless authoritarians, RIGHT!

Some GOPers might feel that way. There are also some GOPers, and hopefully some Democrats, that fear the methods ACORN is willing to employ in order to bring about the change they desire. There seems to be enough evidence of ballot box stuffing and other issues to merit that concern.

Anything even remotely similar to the antics by ACORN commited on the GOP side would be squashed in milliseconds. Somehow this org gets away with murder and all the while is subsidized with our tax dollars.

Gman, maybe your time as a (whatever self-proclaimed role you give yourself in the Party) would be better spent figuring out how ANY Democrat isn't committing the political equivalent of self-immolation if they currently support ACORN.

You are attempting the equivalent of saying that your opponent is blind because he calls a pile of effluent "effluent."

To paraphrase, you are stating that "Republicans are afraid of ACORN because they think the effluent is effluent!"

The reason the GOP hates Acorn is because they receive federal funding, then turn around and in multiple recorded instances advocate that those receiving those benefits openly break the law.

Prostitution, child prostitution, prostitution with illegal imagrents(read; sex slaves). All of which I’m sure you’d agree are victimless crimes.

What other crimes, Gman, would you have them advocate with YOUR tax dollars?

As to your article.

Paragraph 11:
Quote:
Republican-minded groups--from the NRA to religious rightists--run the exact same kinds of voter-reg and turnout campaigns in GOP neighborhoods. But these rabid partisans (who are the same people who connived in 2000 to "elect" Bush president on a rigged 5-4 Supreme Court vote) were not about to allow a Democratic-minded group get away with such success. So they cynically decided to demonize the group, shout it down, and shut it down.
How, in heaven’s name does anyone “RIG” a supreme court decision???!!!

When you go for the poors and minorities throats, expect them to get by as necessary. You would prefer them to die quietly.

Well, except for that small "Nevada" problem.

Do you think your absolute statement could have been "absolutely wrong?"

I like how consistent you are. Ann Coulter should have been brought up on those charges. She lied, and said that a man was stalking her. And we all know that is a lie. Only men that like big hands, and a protruding adams apple, would have any interest.

I won't bother to look for a confirmed case of ACORN attempting to improperly influence elections - I made no claim that they did so. I pointed out that the suspicion that ACORN might have done so is a reasonable one, and is reason enough to view them with trepidation.

My point is that not all Republicans, or even all Republican Representatives, dislike ACORN for the reasons you attribute to them.

Beck and Palin insinuation good enough for an indictment now? In lieu of that, bad rep for life?

The other reason is now moot. The repubs have used their manchurian activist judge to overturn 100 year old precedent, to address once and for all the Dem problem. Now, the repubs, that suck the teat of big business, will never again suffer a campaign contribution deficit. Talk about conspiracies.
