So far the gear seems to be holding up , have a total of 4 flights two on the blue angel F18 , and two on the tiger F18 , again i`m the pilot of both aircraft not the owner , both of my friends Al and Chuck bought this at the same time AMA Show here in SO CAL. this guys have little experience with jets , I`ve flying ducted fan jets since the early 80s , therefore I was chosen to fly both aircraft lucky me , will be flying again this weekend , hopefully some more pics and video . Landing gear fix

I 'm getting ready to build my F-18 I got the last part the speed control,
and was getting ready to test the fan, I was looking at stock gear
and looking throught my retracts box I have a Hobbycity pair that
look like the banana hobby f-18 mains - and guess what they are
only they work 100 times better they are exactly the same but
you can see the hobby city one are made of a diffrent material
and are much stronger - made from the same molds?? the hobby city
ones use larger screws to hold it together but these have no slop
and you get a very positive lock up and down.
well that will take care of mains,

how the nose retract is the same so if you buy 2 sets you can make
a good set with positive lock up and down

link:http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s...0mm_long_(PAIR)

from the coustom comments :These retracts work flawlessly, the wire truly is 3.5mm but when you bend it i would recommend to heat the wire first because it is a blit brittle. They are "Reversible" so you can disasseble them and change the way on the controlwire, that means you can still have one servo in the middle and have the retracts retract either inwards or outwards.

Missing / folded peices leave good size holes in the side of the fuse, gonna look at patching those with some spare foam or even expanding foam.

It took three days to stomach looking at this...... I dont mind crashing them, Its actually kinda fun sometimes, and trust me , I have. But when a silly failure causes a brand new pane this much damage, it just kicks my motivation button right in the #####...

Will try to do some work this evening, will keep you all posted......

landing gear fix?

I decided to play with these and was able to make a a very good
set using part from both the hobby city and banana hobby gear
by using the center piece (with gear leg) from the banana hobby
set and the case and pusher plunger I was able to make a very
good set ,no play- slop positive lock up and down , I supect that
banana hobby said they up graded the retracts - but finished using
the version 1 till they ran out???. now I bought the after market
electric gear - but these now feel so good I thinking of using them.

JRCoca I can see how your accident happened , I noticed they have
2 set screw holes on both the upper and lower nose gear, on the
conecting shaft they only use 1 flat and 1 set screw??? I took it all
apart and put 2 more flats and set screws with a little green locktite
I also drilled and taped a second set screw at the top of gear
were it connects to retract unit . I also removed the little space
gear feels much better and hopefully will have fixed the problems
we are seeing

Nice info, one thing is for sure, the grey is a soft material. I have to admit, I did tighten the set screw during the build, should have checked it again during flight checks.

Found these struts, thinking about them for next attemped

check them out http://www.proedf.com/index.php?p=6&...cat0=7&lang=en

Stumpy are you going to repair it? just glue it back together with foam etc and maybe glass it?

Shakaka, yeah I'm just down the road from you. I fly from the FVRCF field, down near the river. I recently ordered this one as the bare airframe. I expected a V2, but received a V1 version. I am now modding it for strength and working rudders as I build it.

Jagzilla,

I am surprised you received a V1; I thought they were all sold out of V1 ARFs many months ago. You should say something if you didnít start building the model. By the way, I was asking Hobby Lobby about any new 90mm jets on the horizon and they plan to make a major announcement next week on the release of a new 90mm jet.

Thanks.

Has anyone measured the stock setup for thrust and power? Just wondering how much better it would be to do some mods..

My gear setup is weak also... left servo just died after about 6 cycles. Others and ok so far but do not lock down (or up) well.
