F1 Airplane - Electric motor suggestions

Please help. I have a .40 size F1 Airplane sitting in my hangar. I think that it is called an Estralida (.sp). It has a .40 OS VR engine curently installed. I have never flown it for a number of reasons. 1) no throttle; 2) no muffler. Now that electric motors have come along, can anyone recommend an inexpensive setup that will make this thing go as fast as it can go? I have been reading some threads and they mention a 1200 kV motor, but like I said I want this thing to just scream !!!! Any help would be appreciated

Kevin,
It's good to see it sitting on the feet. Not too long until it flies now.
Good job, Arch

I had to post a couple of pictures just because. The pictures were taken by Sean Dunnavant at the recent Q-40 Champ race in PHX. We had a blast with the EF1's and the pictures show how gifted Sean is at taking pictures.

Very nice! I really like the Shoestrings, those have always been my favorite F1 airplanes both in RC and full scale.

Had a fun eF1 race in Fort Worth yesterday! Ten entries, 400 foot two pole course. I think Blake Arnold was first and John Jennings was second. I was tied for fourth with a couple of cuts.... The four non-Pogos were a little faster than the six stock Pogos.

Will post a link to the results when available.

I dunno if i agree with you there Thomas B. I think all the Ef1's were similar in speed actually. Just pilot skill on the course. I do think the red lil tony was hauling major ass but looks can be deceiving because its red and that color looks fast any way.

The red Toni and the blue Toni both seemed really fast to me... I don't understand why if the Turnigy motor in the red one has the same kv as my Eflite motor it runs so dang fast on the 8x6 prop. I know we used the same battery (Turnigy Nano-tech 2.65 30c) in the heat I flew with him. Can some one explain this kv/prop thing to me? Both should be 1250kv, but they say to use 8x6 on turnigy and 8x8 on Eflite. I might have to bolt on a Turnigy motor and see for myself if it feels faster.

Maybe and APC 8x7E prop on the eflite the? Is there such an animal? I got some EMP 8x7E but they will not fit under the eflite spinner. i think the non pogo's are really light at the bare min weight.

Mine is not a Pogo, and although I have not checked the weight, I didn't do anything special. Heck, in the first race I used one of Jerry's Pogo's and won three heats with it, and would have possibly one the fourth (first) but on the second pylon I wasn't ready for how quick it was going to turn, and cut it. Point is, the Pogo sure as hell is competitive!! So all you Pogo owners need not worry, just come to the dang race!!! I just wish they were not all the same color scheme, or I would have bought one already. My plane doesn't fly straight, I may have glued the tail on wrong lol.

In all honesty I think all the air frames are fairly balanced. This is turning out to be a great event!
