Here's all the "over-legislation" you have ALREADY signed onto when you enter EF-1 (or pretty much any other rulebook racing event):
Minimum wing area
Minimum airfoil thickness
Maximum engine/motor size
Make, model, & technical specs for motor & ESC
Maximum battery weight
Stock propeller/minimum & maximum propeller diameter
Number of R/C channels/ground steering/motor shutoff
Scale replica requirements/design approval
Safety inspection of clevises, pushrods, servo arms, wing hold-down method
ANY ONE of these restrictions, which you have already agreed to, is subject to the same arguments you make about the internal elevator horn. Every one was put in place to reconcile two competing interests:
1. Allow for high enough performance to make things interesting, and
2. Keep the activity accessible and appealing to as many participants as possible, with a mind to cost, complexity, and safety.
I could make a list for you of all the R/C racing events that have been invented since 1958, that have started out with all good intentions but immediately began to erode and finally were destroyed by "speed creep" -- starting with items as seemingly minor as an internal elevator horn. That list would include just about every event that has ever existed.

I had some time today to get some work done on my Midget Mustang EF-1. It took me longer to straighten up the edges of my 1/16" X 6" sheeting than it was to get it in the bed-cores. Thanks to DK for the EF-1 Hotline tech-support! I pre-wet the balsa with a rag and water, then applied Gorilla glue with a Bondo squeegee. The result is the Gorilla Glue will foam slightly and cure much quicker. I stacked a whole bunch of tile on top of the core beds and a nice, flat wood plank to keep the wing halves straight. I have all of the leading edge and trailing edge stock to keep this project moving.

Looks nice troy. I just test flew my Pogo this afternoon. I would love to build a kit but like this. A list of kit suppliers would be a great sticky thread IMO.
Edit: The Pogo required only one click of elevator trim and damn there flew perfect right off the ground.

I stopped by Jerry's yesterday to drop off some paint he lent me.... WOW!!! That Shoestring is sweet. The pictures here don't do it justice.
On another note, at the first EF1 race Jerry let me race his Pogo. It was fun!!! He then gave me the bits from a wrecked Midget Mustang. I got it in the air today, though it was well after sunset, and no one could believe I was going to maiden this race plane.
All went well, and I am excited we are having another race on Sunday. I really hope this (EF1) takes off, as these planes are a joy to fly.

Motor Connector Size ?
Question for the Group:
When I was in Muncie for the F5D worlds, George Parks advised that some guys are experiencing melt down issues with the connectors on the Turnigy 1250Kv motor. ie. the three bullet connectors that plug into the controller. I think the plugs are 3.0mm and they may not be rated for the amps we are drawing using props like the 8x8.
I think George said that guys are changing to the next size up (4.0mm ?). Has anyone experienced this issue ? I had some connector problems of my own in the early days of the Outrageous/Turnigy but I thought it was due to arcing between connectors. I since completely cover each of the connectors with heat shrink to isolate them.
BTW, it's snowing here this morning...

3mm connectors are plenty big enough for the modest currents we're using.
The main problem is the poor soldering of these connectors on the motor side. This causes a temperature rise, melting of the insulation and shorting between phases. Some of the motors I've seen have had solder spikes sticking out of the connectors which makes them even more prone to shorting.
Remake all the motor connections, put on heat shrink as you mention and then wrap each wire in Kapton tape.
Bet we've got more snow out here than in the city. 4" so far and still throwing it down. Hopefully it'll clear up for Sunday's race... Meanwhile, I'm off to hook up the snowplough to the ATV.
