Our good friend Jim T. Graham from RCGroups brought assistants to help at the Expo and ETOC.... They seemed to have spare time.

Flying Giants has all the Vids from ETOC http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=63594

I had hoped to get my T__T 60 out yesterday for the first time this year. I even had it at the flying field. Then I got a phone call and had to pack up and leave and take care of some family business. I was so close...I was getting ready to fuel the plane! Today it is not windy in Chicago, but there is still a huge amount of fog! Current visibility is 0.5 to 1.0 miles! I'm working anyway, so even if it was clear I couldn't go fly. I'm hoping this weekend I'll have a chance.

It is more for my 15 year old but I intend to try it out and if I like it, I will be building one this summer for sure I just got back into gas and have a new Hangar 9 P51 I maidened last weekend that flies beautifully too Hoping saturday is a decent day!

There is a word you don't see too often, "Grok". I'm guessing you read it in "Stranger in a Strange Land". One of my favorite sci fi books.

BTW, I did get out and run 5 heats in the last three days with my Pogo electric. So all 5 batteries have been flown and recharged.

I noticed the Eflite Power 25 1250Kv seems to be more efficient than the Turnigy 35-42 1250Kv. Putting 1500 to 1650 mAh back in the 2200 mAh batteries. With the Turnigy I was putting 1800 to 2100 mAh back in my bats.

Cheers,

Bill

I Like that word,,,,,,,,, Grok ,,,,,,,,,
I think it would go in a sentence like I think I have a grok in my neck

Hmm are you guys ignorning me

Charging Question

I have a Hobbico 12Volt Free lead Calcium Battery
says to charge for 8-10 hours with a 12v 500mA Charger

I usually just use my regular car battery charger on trickle at 2 amps for about 3 - 4 hours

Can I use my Hobbico Mark II Field charger to charge this battery? if so, what setting would I use of the 3, and I think it only puts out 2A at the most on the dial. I was just given another one of these chargers so now I have 2 and I thought it would be easier to use, and it shuts off after the bat is charged.

Rx battery charging
So I've put the setting on 0.2 Amps the lowest possible setting and am charging my Hi-tech Rx Battery which on the battery says Imput 100mA
I am using the Ni-cad setting.

So If 1000 mA = 1 amp do you think I'll be damaging the battery for the Rx

It is probably a 7Ah battery and the charge current should probably be about 700mAh. 2A is too much. The Hobbico charger is supposed to be 600mA.

Set the Hobbico Quick Field Charger MKIII to 0.6. BUT - that charger is not setup to do Lead-Calcuim batteries. You should NOT rely on that charger to shut off properly. It does not have a setting for Pb batteries.

Rx battery charging
So I've put the setting on 0.2 Amps the lowest possible setting and am charging my Hi-tech Rx Battery which on the battery says Imput 100mA
I am using the Ni-cad setting.

NiCd batteries usually cannot take high charge rates. It is typically about .1C. .2A on the charger is 200mA and that is 2X what your battery manufacturer suggests.

So If 1000 mA = 1 amp do you think I'll be damaging the battery for the Rx

If you charge it at 1A, it ain't doin' it any good!
Now, get rid of the NiCd batteries and get a charger (or two) similar to this one:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11060
It will charge/balance Pb, NiCd, NiMh, Lipo, Liio, and Life.

I also use one of these on my field batteries.
