I want a slow stick to fly in my back yard, well not quite my back yard as the local school own whats beyond my fence. See the pics.

Its just not big enough to Razz a WildHawk or HawkSky about, Half a soccer field and a play area, so a slow stick is required. The yard is all lit up at night too, so i would like to step into my back garden/school and just fly while drinking my morning coffe and eating my toast....LOL....

I have come up with a quick design, and put pencil to paper, main thing is its got to be super easy to build and fly. It will be a 3 channel plane, may adapt it to 4 channel if it flies.

Ive posted a pic of the planes ruff plan and yard i wish to fly in, i will do some video on the build and post when done. Hopefully it will make my friday youtube video slot.

I dont know yet, i intend having the sheet of depron dictate the span. Should be near to 40" as the whole thing is based around the Wildhawk's dimensions.

Theres always, the if it looks ok it will do.

The idea is a quick throw together plane. With plenty of room for error and very few parts. So when i break it i can build a new one fast.

1 hour into the build.

Got the fuse finished.

Bought a stick from Home Depot, cut to size drilled and fitted the 2 dowel pins for the wing bands.

Cut a rudder and elevator out of 6mm Depron, used hinge tape and Hot Glued in position.

Fitted the motor propsaver and ESC up front.

Cut some 1/4 inch foam and made a place to stick the wings.

Should take bout an hour to finish, cut the wings and fit servos. Then its done. May get some wheels but not sure, will see what the LHS has got.

We used a Hobbyking motor combo with A RCtimer ESC, and a 9x4.7 prop.
2x9 gram servos,
A stick, of course.
A sheet of 6mm Depron & 3mm doweling,
2 control rods & 2 horns (beep, beep),
Hot glue,
1000 Mah 3 cell 20c battery,
A bit of 1/4 inch foam for the wing to sit on,
And some sticky tape + 2 1/2 hours hard work....LOL ,
But will it fly, we will see...

Slow stick, quick build (5 min 28 sec)

The first and last time we took the Scratch built slow stick out to play that you saw us building in last weeks video, Matty had one more flight, got stuck up a tree and had to use a hammer to get it out.
Maybe a little to much flex in the wings on this one, but overall it flew great, better than we expected, and stayed within the area we wanted to fly.
Looking forward for the Mk 2 to exit the workshop, this will have stiffer wings and a better paint job.

Slow stick maiden flight & crash (3 min 9 sec)

We tweaked the first slow stick, used 7mm depron and shortened the wings, added some red paint, and now this plane is my favorite.

I have since flown this plane 15+ times without a problem. It loops, sorta rolls, stall turns and can carry my little cam. (just don't let Matty fly it Ha Ha)

The video gets blurrier at times but it is the first flight so it got to stay in.

I Just saw this thread and would like to build one. ( I am sure I am not the only one)
Would you please provide details of the mods from MK1 to Mk2 and how you stiffened the wing?

I would apreciate if yo would do a sketch with dimensions for MK2.

try building a wing like the old fogey. it is simple to build and does not need a spar or stiffener.the first link is the plane the second is the build video

Thankyou microairman1 for the suggestion. I have the old fogy plan but I wonder if an old fogey wing would work fot this design. Would you recomment I make this plane's fuse fit the olg fogey wing or other way around?

tariqsaeed - I believe what microairman1 is referring to is the type of construction of the Fogey wing, not the overall shape of the wing. The airfoil made from two bits of foam angled together, rather than a flat plate. There is no need to modify your fuse. Build a new Slow Stick shaped wing with the Fogey airfoil and put some foam in the middle of the new wing so it has a flat area to mate with your existing fuselage.

FWIW I had a GWS Slow Stick for a while and it was not at all "Slow." To really go slow you need a big elevator that can push the plane into high alpha flight and let it hang off the prop. Look at how big the control surfaces are on 3D planes. Those things can creep on by like they're barely moving, or hover like a helicopter. I went to 3D from the GWS Slow Stick and it was a much easier and better flying experience.

yeah what jack is what i was meaning just take the wing chord and go a 1/3 of way back for the LE and do the bend there. should work really well.
