I can't quite figure out what charge state in volts corrisponds to the fraction of mAhs stored. I know that 3.85v is 50% and ~4.2v is 100% charged. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) I don't think that a linear interpolation between the two values is correct though.

State of charge as a percentage is available during the charge in addation you can open the CCS , choose a Preset ,click on the Fuel Tab and see the % and Voltages or use this link for a PL fuel table I have posted many times

Single Cell Anomoly??

I'm trying to revive a Dremal pack one cell at a time.
They are .700 NiCads.
I can get around 8 minutes into a single cell cycle but then the "Wrong Cell Count" error keeps popping up.

I've used bananas and a modified node harness that works for other things.
I'm using a nicad preset and it looks to be configured properly.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Bob

Hover over the option and there will be a popup text that gives a brief explanation of each option. If anything is unclear, check to see if its in the manual. If its not listed, or the manual is unclear, post a request for info in this forum.

Does anyone know how to hook up an 8s lipo that has 2 X 4 cell JST-XH balance plugs to the PL8? Is there a separate adapter that needs to be purchased for the two balance plugs?

Very carefully. That's a serial connection which is easy to get wrong and cause short. I posted about my 8s setup recently.

Just to be clear, this is the battery I am talking about:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

So the only way to charge it on a PL8 us to series charge it? Is there an adapter ready made for this that can be purchased from FMA or anywhere?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Jeremy,

One of my buddies has the same battery and searched high and low for the series JST-XH adapter and could not locate one. As such, I fished a few connectors out of my bin and brewed one up for him.

To make one, you'll need a 9 position JST-XH male and two five position JST-XH female connectors and simply wire the two female connectors to the 9 pin male connector. I color coded both the two males on his battery and the two female connectors on the adapter with red and black sharpies so it would be extremely difficult to let the magic smoke out.

Greg's photo is excellent and shows exactly how to wire it up.

Thanks guys, looks like I will have to do the same.

Now, is it still possible to parallel charge 3 of these batteries? I usually parallel charge 6 4s lipos without problems on my FMA paraboard, that is a total of 24 cells which 3 8s's would also be 24 cells.

No problem at all. I have parallel charged sixteen 3S batteries at the same time before. That's 48 cells.

Incidentally, David has 8S JST-XH pigtails so you can pick up some of these and all that you would need to complete your adapter are some 5 position JST-XH female connectors. I likely have some in my bin. PM me if interested.

As Mark says, no problem at all. The MPA parallel board does support up to six 8s packs.

Alright, on this 8S battery you have two 4s balance plugs coming out and one main power lead. So I understand now that I need to get a 9 position male JST-XH and connect it to two 5 position females to make a balance wiring adapter. From the pictures I can see that the two females are color coded, one red and one black because I gather if you hook them up the wrong way you will short them. So my question is, how do I know which balance connectors go to which? Can someone point me in the right direction that will show me how to wire and connect this up without smoking the battery?

Thanks,
Jeremy
