List of every CAD program you have ever tried....
One benefit of the CAD Forum will be a "Getting Started" sticky. It seems to me this should include the results of a Poll on how many of us use each software package.
To set up this poll we'll need a list.
To start the list, here are a few packages but there are of course many more. Help me out. We will need to subdivide the list into specific versions and dates, since some of the older packages are available at the most reasonable entry prices.
Ashlar-Vellum (Argon, Cobalt)
AutoCAD v.10 (DOS)
AutoCAD v.12 (DOS & Windows)
AutoCAD v.13 (Windows)
AutoCAD v.14 (Windows)

ProE, Autocad 10, Solid Edge, Sketchup
ProE I used for a class when I was in school. Autocad (this was an old dos version) I used at work for a few years, but that was all tablet based (like a grid where every spot was a shortcut, used a mouse like device with a cross hairs on it). Not very useful as the interface and functions were custom. Then we switched to Solid Edge. Very good for 3d, but sucked if you just wanted to do a 2d drawing without doing the 3d drawing 1st. Don't remember the version. I don't draw stuff for a living anymore. Now I solely use Sketchup for personal stuff, because it is very intuitive and have just enough features so there is no learning curve if say you leave it for a few months. And you can improve it yourself by writing plugins or downloading them. I was turned on to it when I got involved with the Phlatprinter. I wrote my first tutorial in March 2009, but it's posted at the phlatforum. If anyone is interested, it located here: http://phlatforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=653 It's about how to make a sliceform light buld, in Sketchup. I posted a pic of it towards the end of the cad/cam vote thread.

I am learning to use Solidworks for the first time (also my first serious effort to try to learn this sort of thing at all). Quite a steep learning curve but my first drawings are getting there.

I am quite happy with Autocad 2000; I had used the free TurboCAD (I guess) for a short time.
I also use the free A9CAD for converting and opening Autocad files at work - because they do not want to add another seat of licensed Autocad.. I use this program for simple drafting jobs as well.

I used Autocad, when it was only text-based and, on the slow computer of the day, took forever to change anything. It was essentially unusable, but interesting.
Then I got TurboCad, upgraded to TurboCad for Windows.
Now using Turbocad Pro v. 14.2, with Mechanical pack - this one is great!
Never used professionally; only for my own use.

I use Autodesk products at work, also for modeling. AutoCAD and Inventor. I have tried Rhino, Solidworks, Pro-E, Turbocad but always went back to what i used at work.
