Marriage has had a tax penalty since 1969 as a ramification of tax legislation created by the Democratic congress and signed into law by Richard Nixon.

It seems that it is only an issue for you when you can use it when you have a dull axe.

Or maybe you only pay attention when it suits.

Healthcare has not had a tax penalty like this before. Hence the discussion of a new tax.

It seems ignoring the basics of discussing a new penalty are only an issue for you when it's snark time.

It is a fact regardless of your appreciation of its cuteness.

The only problem with that is.............I believe historical facts show that increased taxes have always 'decreased' revenues.

It would be neat if you could offer some support for your belief, but it really is not relevant to my point, is it?

I think the unmarried couple should pay the same as the married couple, to reduce the burden on the taxpayers who are funding this boondoggle social welfare scheme. That said, married couples would be fools to stayed married if they get their health insurance via the government exchanges. Heck of a job Obamie!

Divorce! and spend that savings on a trip to Las Vegas!
Quote:
People who get their health insurance through an employer wouldn't be affected. Only people that buy subsidized insurance through new exchanges set up by the legislation stand to be impacted. About 17 million people would receive such subsidies in 2016 under the House plan, the Congressional Budget Office estimates.

The bills cap the annual amount people making less than 400% of the federal poverty level must pay for health insurance premiums, ranging from 1.5% of income for the poorest to 11% at the top end, under the House plan.

For an unmarried couple with income of $25,000 each, combined premiums would be capped at $3,076 per year, under the House bill. If the couple gets married, with a combined income of $50,000, their annual premium cap jumps to $5,160 -- a "penalty" of $2,084. Those figures were included in a memo prepared by House Republican staff.

Government is big business. They are trying every little thing they can to come up with new/stealth ways to take more of our money. If you gave your kids an allowance and they spent it all the first day, would you give them more? They would come to expect it and soon you would be working two jobs just to keep them in iTunes

California had relatively high taxes for 75 years and had high revenues until the recent economic recession.

Or do you not remember the nature of your own assertion?

I simply want you to offer compelling evidence (besides your feelings) that raising taxes results in lowering of State Revenues.

And believe me, anyone listening to your half baked conclusions and hearing your cynicism regarding education is capable of knowing "whats" happening here.

I wonder if same sex couples will complain that they don't get to pay as much in taxes as traditional married couples.
