Don;t get me wrong, Flop is right, every bit of weight is or has some significance. Point is, I'm only an intermediate pilot(LOL been flying for 40 years), I can hover and catch , knife edges etc, but I'm certainly not a top notch smoooth pilot and with that said, I don't really notice or feel a disadvantage to a little extra weight.

I have flown some much lighter in the ranges he mentioned but it didn't make me fly any better.

APC 13x4E on 48" Juka

Fellas the stock prop is of course 12x6E; I was wondering whether anybody's tried a 13x4E on the 48" Juka (w/ Dynamo system)?

Is so, the results?

thx
Jeff

I decided to sell my 22" micro Juka with everything you need to make it fly. In the micro classifieds for anyone interested.

I have some other planes in the closet that I want to build that interest me more right now. Plus, I'm getting married in a couple of months so a little extra cash wouldn't hurt either.

REally want to build it, but I have my fusion for my DW fix for now.

My first 38" Yak suffered an incurable case of hanger rash. (Note to self : look in the back of car to see if depron plane is back there before dropping a lawn chair over the seat)

So here is the replacement. Just got back from the maiden. Ah, nothing like virgin foam. :-) And in regards to the paint vs. weight argument, I'm pretty sure that all this paint weighs less than the glue and foam repairs I had on the old airframe.

Finally Maiden'd my 40 Extra 300 today.

I have had this plane build for over 3 weeks, but today was my first chanch to get it in the air. Brought vid cam for 2nd flight but unfortunately, the landing wheel came off when I landed after about 6 minutes of flight. Did not want to risk flying again with only 1 wheel.

The good news is that this airplane is a DREAM to fly. There was a consistant and smooth 10 mph breeze that hardly fazed it. Set the controls at the recommended newby 50% rate with 25% expo and this plane flew like a trainer. 2 clicks down elevator and it was level flight! Only did a few rolls and a good strong vertical climb was no problem. Otherwise I just took it easy and flew gentle fig eights and loops plus a bunch of practice landing approaches. Airplane is soo smooth and responsive. Even with the 1/2 throws rolls are crisp and smooth. Tracks like it is on rails. Landing was textbook except for the wheel coming off as I used heat-shrink tubing for the wheel retainers and they were practicaly weightless.

As this was my first plank flight in 20+ years and a 3D ship to boot, I was suprised as to how well she flew and how similar it banks and turns to my 450 heli (with the exception of heli rudder input) Did the whole flight with elevator / aileron. Dit not play with the rudder. (no need).

Note that DW is now making this bird in a Fusionversion with a stronger EPP fuse and 9 MM carbon / Deltron wing. But unless you really screw up or get nuts close to the ground, this plane is just too easy to fly. I would strongly recommend one!

flew my 38" yak yesterday while completely smashed drunk, best part is i was flying it at like 7300 ft altitude in the woods with 20-40 foot tree's to dodge my way through.

the hovering was sloppy but i swear knife edge and rolling circles were easier.

only did one flight like that and got it back without incident, but if the faa was around i would have got a FUI.

i finally got my 40" Juka dialed in and replaced the MG14 hextronics with HS65mg's. It made a world of difference. This think flies so smoothly and tracks unbelievably well. I had only flown the fusion 40" to date, but I think I like the regular Depron model more. It'll hover hands off at just under 50% throttle easily.

Mike - thanks for a great model and terrific customer service!

Well, Mike just sent me a new 40" Juka which I am starting to build for the Wenatchee Huckfest comming up in a week or so. I am having a hard time deciding on a scheme though. Daniel and I have painted at least 15 of these and we're running out of good schemes! I think I may go back and use some templates from previous builds.

Michael, maybe you should do something based upon a white scheme? Seems like a lot of people are going with multiple color schemes and making them complex. Pinstripes for example can make for a simple and good looking scheme
